Rising Stars: Meet Myeshea Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Myeshea Williams.

Myeshea, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always had a thing for hair; hair is just everything to me. Hair is like my best friend that brings out all of my creativity. There was a life-changing event that occurred which caused me to dive deep into my natural roots. I experienced a death in my family of someone who was very close to me in 2017. I had so much pain inside of me and I wanted to do something that made me feel good. I wanted to start a new chapter, experience a new beginning and feel something different. I decided to go natural, no chemicals or heat in my hair and reveal my real beauty raw and uncut. When I first went natural, I had no idea of what I was doing but I knew it would help me feel somewhat better. There were days, I did not comb my hair and it looked a mess, which is exactly how I felt mentally because my mind was all over the place as I coped with the pain of my loved one. Ironically, the way I looked on the outside is exactly how I felt in the inside.

As I started maintaining my natural hair journey a little better, I also felt better. The better I became at styling my hair, it became a little easier to deal with my loss. The pain eased little by little; as time went by, things seemed to be all right. Nothing was the same and everything was different but life made a lot more sense. Beginning my natural hair journey helped me get through a very hard time in my life. About two years ago, I created my hair page on Instagram (@Naturally_mystyle) and at that, same time I discovered the benefits of aloe vera. I started making aloe vera gel for hair. I gave out free samples and then sold aloe vera in 12 oz. mason jars. I also made aloe vera shampoo. During this time, I was working full time and selling aloe vera on the side. I remember doing my first tabling event as a vendor displaying my aloe vera gel. A few months went by, I was so happy and excited but then sales got slow, I got discouraged and stopped making aloe vera. I still kept my hair page active. I would post pictures but did not stay consistent with my content. I was allowing all my hair passion to go to waste. One day I came to realize I was putting my dream on hold and limiting my ability to give my full potential into something I loved doing.

Once covid hit and the world shut down, I had a real-life reality check. I told myself “it’s my time to shine”. A month later in April, I dyed my hair spicy red, remind you this was my first time ever dying my hair and I fell in love with it. I started getting all of these ideas of taking my natural hair journey to the next level. I originally created a logo for Naturallymystyle but I designed a new logo since I was planning to launch a new haircare line. After that, I purchased my wholesale license and boom, launched my hair care line. I started out with hair bonnets, then detangling brushes, and making aloe vera gel again! I recently had a Naturallymystyle photoshoot launching my new bonnet colors and kid’s bonnets, this was my first photoshoot and it was the bomb, lol! As I look back, everything I experienced within these past few years helped me create what is now Naturallymystyle hair care line.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not a smooth road at all, very challenging and stressful. Some days I felt motivated and other days I felt unmotivated BUT I always knew it was worth it! No matter how hard it got, I just couldn’t completely quit!.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work in Long Beach at a nonprofit as a case manager for veterans. I love helping people, older and younger. I want to see more love shown in the world amongst individuals and so I do my best in my day-to-day work to see that happen. Not only at work but personal relationships as well. A smile goes a long way and it is free, so that is what I make sure I leave people with and vice versa.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Before something great happens, everything falls apart. Through every dark night, there is a brighter day!
