Life & Work with Liza Forero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liza Forero.

Hi Liza, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I go as Officially Lizi! I am Colombian American and was born in NJ! As a child, my musical influences were Madonna, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Aaliyah, and Destiny’s Child! I wanted to be as powerful as Madonna, sing like Mariah, be an icon like Celine, dance like Aaliyah and be a diva like Beyoncé! I was a ballerina growing up for 14 years, sang in school musicals and talent shows all my life! I was the star in my school plays and won many talent shows for singing & dancing! I started writing & recording my own music at 16 years old in a professional studio. I recorded a lot of music as a teen and young adult and back then, I competed in a show called, Making the Band with Diddy! I learned a lot but felt I needed to make a change! I then moved to Miami at 24 years old! I decided to join an Rnb group called “2,squar’d” and together we competed on a show called X Factor 2011 with Simon Cowell, etc. We did well but ultimately didn’t succeed and I wanted to keep my solo career going, so I parted ways with the group. I then worked hard on my music and released an EP called “Dear Diary” and then a few singles and music videos thereafter! You can catch one of my favorite songs and videos called “Don’t Matter” on my YouTube: officiallylizi.

Miami was so amazing for me as I really got in touch with my Colombian roots there because of the heavy Latin culture! I sang for a cover band in Miami named LaLinea Band and we had the opportunity to sing and perform and open the Miss Universe Pageant in 2015! I then started my own band and made a living off my music performing all over Florida from 2015- 2019! At the end of 2019, I decided I wanted more out of music and wanted to give my solo career another try, so I moved to LA in AUGUST 2019 just in time for the pandemic!! Haha! Ever since then, I’ve been in the studio, working hard to release my next POP URBAN solo project under my new alias “Officially Lizi” (name change since 2017)! I am currently signing a deal with Estabrook Road Records, where I will be releasing my next single since 2015!!!! It’s been a longggg road, but I still believe in myself and have worked so hard through the years to make my dreams come true!! I have waited a long time to release music, but I have released some Original Christmas songs and some covers through the years (check the YouTube!).

The first single back with Estabrook Records will be called “Fkin Sry” and it’s a strong divaliscious girl anthem about being tough and calling out your ex after a bad breakup! Basically saying I know you’re not sorry, you really broke my heart, but I’m over you and better off without you! (Written the day after my 6 yr relationship heartbreak!) I want to really show girls how to be strong as young girls and not make the mistakes I’ve made by talking about my experiences! I want to be sexual, sophisticated, and cool all at the same time! I want to wipe the stigmas of that u can’t be sexy, smart and talented because we as woman must be proud and allowed to do and say what we want with our speech and our bodies! I also want to show the world it’s never too late to make your dreams come true! Yes, I am in my 30s, but my talent didn’t die because I grew up! Haven’t you ever seen 13 going on 30???? 30 flirty and THRIVING!!!!!! I’m not giving up and I’m unapologetically ME! Follow me on IG, TikTok, YouTube: OFFICIALLYLIZI.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a difficult road as money, connections, management, and building a following is a hard journey! Also, being a woman, you are faced with horrible people who want to help you in exchange for inappropriate things! There is so much you learn along the way, and still so much to learn! It has been hard to find my way as far as the type of music I do, being in a group and then being solo, and also trying to mix my Latin roots with my pop urban sound!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am very proud that I can say I’ve had my own band called the Liza Forero Band for quite a long time and I entertained a lot of people and made a lot of souls happy with my music! I also work at a fans site called Onlyfans, where my fans can take a closer into my life! Since the pandemic, I wasn’t able to perform since the city of LA has been closed!

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Networking is just constantly putting yourself out there, whether thats on social media or in person! Finding a mentor can be anyone, just having that one person in your corner that also believes in you and keeps you grounded!
