Meet Mimi OAddo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi OAddo.

Hi Mimi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi! I’m Mimi Owusu-Addo. A 23 year old, born & raised from Newark, NJ. Hence, I’ve also graduated with a B.S in Information technology, from the amazing HBCU known as Winston-Salem State University. This HBCU is  located in North Carolina. To begin with, my passion for fashion started when I was eight years old. Growing up in Newark, NJ our culture upnorth is very big on fashion. Hence, this allowed fashion to become very organic for me. I would be so excited to attend class, just for everyone to see my fit/sneakers, lol. Since then, I’ve always known that I wanted to be in the field of fashion and become this big influencer or designer. I didn’t take it seriously until 2016. 2016 was the year I’ve decided to create my own brand and become a black female designer. I’ve named my brand Voler Et Bèni. Which means fly and be blessed in French. I’ve started off successfully selling T-Shirts. After the success, I still wasn’t content. I’ve decided to take a three year break, in which I’ve grown closer to God and studied my passion in fashion which allowed me to perfect my craft in sewing and design. Oct 27th, 2020 is the day I’ve relaunched my brand. I started off with my first item which was my bag that I’ve designed. It sold out within 10 hours. Nothing but God.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s definitely been an emotional journey. A person like myself is very hard on myself. I always want to be the best in everything that I do. It’s seriously Me Vs Me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a designer, creative director, and a professional editorial/commercial print model. I am mostly known for all three. What I am proud of right now? Mhmm. That’s hard to answer because I’m not content right now until I can become a billionaire. And God willing… I will. What I can say is, I love the fact that I always include God in my plans. Without him, I wouldn’t be doing well in my career path. What sets me apart from others is…. no matter how much God blesses me, I always remain humble & treat everyone with kindness. Even when I take an L, I still stay true to myself. I will never fake anything.

What’s next?
My plan for my future is to achieve every goal of mine. My mother actually used to stress on the fact that I want to do everything all at once and that I must chill, lol. Honestly… “I can’t chill.” I believe that’s why God put us on earth. To attack every opportunity that’s out there. There’s actually like four more things that I want to become in life, lol. That is why I look up to Beyoncé & Rihanna. They’re the epitome of “A Go-Getter.”
