Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Sprout.
Melissa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After graduating from UC Irvine, I continued on the creative path as a hairstylist. Inspired by my husband and son, my interest in men’s hair quickly developed into my passion. I felt strongly that in order to create a perfect haircut and experience for my male clients, something more was needed; something better. This motivated me to create KEMPT Men’s Hair.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course there have been struggles!!! Best laid plans and all that right? We had our regular jobs, a son, personal injury, problems finding the right space, construction delays…you name it. But, we have learned so much along the way and truly believe in what we are doing.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about KEMPT Men’s Hair – what should we know?
KEMPT is a non-salon for just men’s hair. Our philosophy is to keep it simple. We focus on just one thing in order to be the best at it. That’s men’s hair. We believe that men deserve better options than overwhelming salons designed for women, archaic barbershops, and undesirable discount chains. So we created KEMPT.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Hmmmmm….I would say persistence. Nothing great happens overnight. I really believe in what I’m doing and that makes it worth staying the course to ensure that our goals become reality.
