Meet Madi Haney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madi Haney.

Hi Madi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story began when I was fresh out of high school and started my education at Orange Coast College. I did not truly know what my passion in life was at the time, so I allowed myself to explore different courses. I have always been a very artistic being; as I am a dancer, play piano, and love music with my heart and soul, yet I had never put two and two together that fashion would spark both my intellectual and artistic side of the brain. I took Trend Forecasting as my first fashion course and fell in love with the program at OCC. I became close with my professor, Michelle Craner, and she had suggested that I take a weekend course called the “Instagram Masterclass” with fashion stylist and influencer Beth Jones. I always enjoy spontaneous opportunities so I signed up and did not think much of it. On the first day of the course there was an instant organic energy about Beth that I loved, and I knew that I wanted to work with her.

Once that course was completed, I kept reaching out to Beth offering any help that I could. After a few times of working together, she decided to bring me around more frequently and just a couple of months later, she hired me on as her assistant and creative director of B. Jones Style. She has made me realize how important being a great team within this industry is and that you want someone just as hard-working, determined, and kind working by your side. Beth has showed me the fashion world and I could not be more obsessed with my job. I now work as a fashion stylist, creative director on shoots and help with marketing through emails and Instagram. I am still a full-time student, now at Cal State Long Beach, but I can not wait to see where my career takes me once I graduate.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Finding my passion was really the main obstacle. I feel as though there is a lot of pressure put onto college students to know EXACTLY what they want to do in life or what career path to choose. I am so grateful that I took my time in finding out what truly makes me happy, rather than rushing into a career that would not fulfill my soul. I am sure there are some challenges that lie ahead, but I will still feel blessed knowing that I am in a career that genuinely makes me overjoyed.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I really am a jack of all trades within this industry and have a great work ethic. I believe this is what sets me apart from others. I have assisted within celebrity styling, as well as styling for editorial shoots. I am also very hands-on when it comes to the creative direction of the shoots themselves. Within the confines of Instagram, I love to help people find their voice and show them how to project it to their following in a way that tells a story. I have styled a shoot for the launch of a company all on my own with eleven models. I also am just a wonderful hype woman and bring high energy to any project that I work on. I am mostly proud of how far I have already come in the industry just as a 21 years old, and I can not wait to see just how far I can go.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice is to seriously follow your passion and work hard for it. There is a quote that I live by and love so much that “if you wanted to, then you would.” This industry takes hard work and dedication. A lot of people can bring what you bring to the table. It really does come down to just how badly you want it. Some sacrifices will have to be made, but just know that it will all be worth it in the end. Also, to be kind and loving to yourself and others. Genuine connections with people in the industry will go a long way.
