Meet Cindy Turcios of Hairbycinn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Turcios.

Cindy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It started in 8th grade. I would see girls braid their hair for fun, I learned and then boom I became the girl who styled all my friends hair. I would have people sitting in my moms living room waiting to get their hair braided. It looked like a barbershop, I worked with men a lot. I remember making $600 in 2 days. That was a lot of money for a 14 year old. A couple of years later my boyfriend at the time suggested I’d go to cosmetology school.  I was never confident enough to think I could actually make a career out of this. I fell in love!  School was hard, but I just had to finish no matter what. I’m a very hard working, loyal and dedicated person. I started working at an Aveda salon. I learned so much. I asked for a raise, didn’t get it so I left. I decided to work at a different salon, paid rent and now it’s been 6 years that I have been doing what I love as a licensed cosmetologist. The feeling of my clients walking out confident after getting their hair done is so rewarding and it makes me so happy.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not at all. Well in the beginning yes. I had to practice, practice, practice! I lost a lot of friends and people did try to come for my job. I believe that what’s not for me is not for me. I’m a positive person and let’s just say when i lose 1 client, I somehow gain 5. God always has my back.

Please tell us about Hairbycinn.
Well I started braiding so that is what I’m known for. A Latina girl who could braid any texture hair is what I was judged for. My secret…, just love it and do it right! Always research your products. Now i do it all, extensions, cut, braid, ponytails, style and color. I must say styling is my favorite.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wish I was more confident and have the help with the tech part of my business . I’m barely now going to start and grow my company by doing sales . This is something I should’ve done a while back. I’ve been putting it up for years and now I am so excited and thrilled that it is finally getting done.
