Meet Ashley Amezcua

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Amezcua.

Ashley, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Since a young age acting and film has always called my name. I grew up in a really smart town in Arizona and there was not a lot of opportunities to gain experience and knowledge in my craft. In high school, I was part of small really small and low production plays but being on stage for the first time felt breathtaking, the essence that I felt on stage was like no other.

It was in that moment where I knew I wouldn’t just be able to shake off this “hobby” because in fact, it was more like a passion. After high school, I got accepted into the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and I attended their Los Angles Campus and New York Campus. There I really got the opportunity to come into my own and let my talents shine. At first, I was nervous because everyone there had prior knowledge and experience and I felt so behind, but that ended up motivating me to become the best actress that I can be. After college, I joined some theatre companies where I was able to perform and stage managed. Now, I have been auditioning and building my resume and acting reel so I can find the best acting agent for me.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but yet it has still been an enlightening journey so far. One of my biggest struggles was definitely being away from home for long periods of time; I missed out on a lot and that eventually got t0 me. Living alone in a big city can feel so lonesome. You have to have a good support system, and for a while I didn’t. It became a really hard and lonely journey to take on every obstacle that this career has to offer by myself, but it has definitely made me more resilient.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I specialize in Theatre and Film Acting, Directing, Writing, Editing, and Stage Management. So far, I’m proud of the independent films that I have been able to be apart so I can build my acting resume and acting reel. I’m also proud of the good impressions that I have been able to make upon instructors and casting directors. I believe that my desire to stay grounded and grateful sets me apart. I also don’t chase fame. I try my best to stay away from the ‘LA lifestyle’. Not everyone has good intentions for you. You can quickly lose yourself as a person in LA so again, it’s good to have a good support system. I decided to not live in Hollywood or around other actors.

It’s important to me to feel normal and not always feel like I’m stuck in a showbiz lifestyle. Being able to experience life as a regular 20 something years old in LA with friends who don’t want to be actors is really eye-opening and it gives you experiences that you can pull from when you are acting or writing. Only because I’m an actor, I don’t stop living my life. What also sets me apart is that I have worked behind the scenes with directors and managers at theaters so I know what production expects from their actors; Being prepared to always leave a good impression.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is when I used to film really bad quality films in the woods in front of my house. I would have my friends help me out and it was honestly the best thing ever. They are not actors but they did it to help me out and make me happy. They are still my friends now. I’m forever grateful for them and those moments of encouragement.
