Today we’d like to introduce you to Demetre Durham.
Demetre, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I moved here after college (MTSU) in Nashville, TN, where I majored in Mass Communications: Digital Animation. I also danced there as well.
I moved to LA & became a professional dancer where I performed & choreographed for artists and shows. I also worked on my cartoon that I’ve been creating. My drawing skills also started me designing logos and branding packages for businesses.
I then began to handmade pins with my art on them and sell them. People love wearing pins and patches on denim jackets and bags. I started getting tons of requests so I started a pin business called ‘Pin Magic’.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road for sure. Moving to LA was already a hard process in itself. Finding work, shelter and friends is always a challenge when moving to a new city, especially as big as LA.
After a while, you find your lane and start to get the groove of things. Things are going a lot smoother now.
Please tell us more about your art.
I’m an overall artist, I’m a professional dancer, a cartoonist, actor and a business owner for pin.
I’m most proud that I’m a cartoonist and can turn my art/designs into little pins for people to wear all the time.
I also love that can perform and dance to express myself to music.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memories are always the holidays with my family. We always decorate the house, watch holiday movies/shows and eat. I love the feeling and love you get during this time of year.
