Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Lopez.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m 41 years old with two beautiful girls Samantha 22 and Emily 12. I started thrifting around 10. my daughter would ask me to help her with her school outfits and I’d continue to dress her until her senior year. She then won best-dressed thanks to her mama! Her friends would often ask to take them shopping to pick out clothing as well. I eventually accumulated so much stuff my daughter suggested I start selling. Therefore I started my pop-up shop around three years ago. I now reside at the Vintage Vault of upland in downtown upland California.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s definitely been a long dark Rocky road due to my disorder because of my anxiety and depression. I get extremely overwhelmed and am super sensitive at how people speak to me. It’s been difficult for me to hold down a job due to my disability. Thankfully my swifting and my shop has kept my mental health out of the gutter and I am able to share my struggles in burdens and how I’ve been able to overcome and succeed in life.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Bipolar Vintage story. Tell us more about the business.
I love all kinds of clothing but refused to pay an arm and a leg therefore I Thrift! I love vintage retro and modern type styles of clothing. You’ll see me in ragged jeans and a graphic tee one day and cute wedges and a summer dress the next. My fashion is all over the place like my mood, LOL. I hope to help spread mental health awareness and help stop this stigma towards talking about it. If I’ve helped one person get through that’s all that matters but hopefully, I can help others who struggle with mental health and being a single parent and running a business…
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Hopefully, I have my own store and am helping others get started and what they love to do and help them feel more comfortable and open and seeking help and not feel ashamed because of their disability.
