Meet Ahsan Hossain of AhsanActive in Culver City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ahsan Hossain.

Ahsan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I run a fitness initiative called AhsanActive. I am a Full-Time Online Fitness Coach who specializes in helping South Asians shed body fat, get leaner, and feel strong inside & out while still being able to eat the foods that they love. All of the strategies that I teach my clients focus on one thing and one thing only: Sustainability.

I constantly see people focusing on the wrong things, such as performing hours and hours of cardio a day, or only eating salads for their meals, as the way to reach their fitness goals. Time and time again the fitness industry lies to us and plays the blame game: from blaming Sugar, blaming Fats, and more recently blaming Carbs. As South Asians, we’ve been told that we can never be fit due to our Genetics and because of the carb-heavy meals that we eat. BUT I’m here to tell you that there is a way! By making a few small tweaks that build up over time, you will notice that your habits ultimately turn into your LIFESTYLE which will allow you to see amazing results.

My personal fitness journey started three years ago in November 2017. I was unemployed for a while and it really started to take a toll on me both physically and mentally. I stopped going out as much, and I would isolate myself in my room because it was easier than accepting the reality of my situation. I still remember the exact moment three years ago when I looked at myself in the mirror, and I couldn’t recognize the face staring back. I had no idea how things had gotten to that point, but I knew that the man in the mirror was not a reflection of my true potential. It was on this day that I made a promise and commitment to myself – I promised to prioritize my physical and mental health. A year later, I made another promise to commit this same energy towards helping others.

Fast forward to today, I’ve had my own ups and downs but I’m happy that throughout it all, I stayed true to my promise. After embarking on my own journey, I realized that there is so much BS out there on the internet and way too many extreme approaches to exercise and dieting. I wanted to find a different way of doing things and in the process, the AhsanActive initiative was born. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to mentor and coach over 300 students and I’m slowly but surely getting closer to my larger goal of transforming 1,000 individuals in one year.

Has it been a smooth road?
Working in the fitness industry has not been a smooth journey, but it’s been extremely rewarding! From the precovid days of working as early as 5 am and as late as 10 pm, being a Personal Trainer entails working long hours. Currently, with all gyms completely shut down, I have taken my business online full time, which has definitely come with its own struggles and growing pains – but what keeps me going is my vision, and knowing that there are so many people out there who I want to leave a lasting impact on. I want to help people look at fitness as a blessing and come from a place of self-love and compassion rather than looking at it as a chore or, even worse, as a punishment.

My Online Coaching Program is here to take the guesswork away and to stop the vicious Yo Yo Dieting Cycle. At AhsanActive HQ we focus on three main pillars to build a sustainable fitness program: Training, Nutrition, and Mindset. Out of the three, I would argue that Mindset is the most crucial. You need to be in a mindset where you know how to manage your emotions in a healthy manner without turning to food, where you are able to stay neutral with your body and the weight scale, and where you can create sustainable habits which allow you to fuel your body rather than starving it.

I am known for helping South Asians get fit without giving up the foods that they love! I teach all of my clients about Flexible Dieting and If It Fits Your Macros which allows them to incorporate a wild variety of foods and still see the results that they deserve.
