Today we’d like to introduce you to Corey LTE.
Corey, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Ever since childhood, I’ve always had a profound love for music and art. I was born in Long Beach, California so I grew up mainly listening to West Coast Hip Hop and R&B. I was a dual-sport athlete all my life playing football and basketball… Though I was never a scholar student, I surprisingly always did well in mainly literature, writing, and art all throughout my school years. It wasn’t until age 10 when I moved to Moreno Valley, California and joined my middle school band that I learned to play five different instruments within a two years span, giving me the proper entrance into notes, tones, and musical scales. One of which was the guitar, though I still consider myself a novice at times.
Throughout middle school and high school, I had to walk or take the bus 3-5 miles every single day. The bright side of a daily 2-hour walk was that I got to spend a lot of time listening to music and beats that would help the time pass. Slowly but surely, I found myself writing my own rhymes to songs I was listening to during my trips and my love for writing grew from there. Once I graduated High School, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to chase a football career, needed a job so I could make my own money, but also was looking to dabble in the musical arts. So being the indecisive person I am, I tried doing all three and eliminated each option as they dwindled down.
I met every qualification up until swearing into the military, backing out at the last second. The commitment just wasn’t for me.
So instead, I enrolled to play a year of Junior College football at Mount San Jacinto College, where I’d rotate from starter and second string. Unbenounced to the coaching staff and sports administration, I dropped out of all my classes and still played football the remainder of the season. So during school hours, I‘d stay in Moreno Valley practicing music with my group, then drive to San Jacinto for practice after school. Once the season and ended and my football career was officially in the books, I had no further distractions that would prevent me from devoting all my focus into progressing as an Artist.
I practiced relentlessly for two years straight before I dropped my first official song. I felt like I finally found something I was good at and could be proud of. Having the freedom to express myself through something I was actually passionate in. Thankfully I’ve had my group (The LOSERS) being the main backbone for my motivation along this journey. I’ve met amazing people that became close friends over time, all of whom helped make the vision I have for my music career and artistry come to life while helping me grow as a person and artist.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being an underground artist is an uphill battle in itself really. Sometimes it can feel never-ending. The possibilities can feel endless, but the opportunities may seem few and far between. I try not to nitpick myself into writer’s block, but self-doubt sadly plays a negative roll in my process at times.
Please tell us about The LOSERS.
The LOSERS is a multifaceted collective promoting individuality and creative expression. We do photography, dancing, videography, art, painting, music, music engineering, music production, graphic design, public events, and club promotion. I myself gravitated more toward music, graphic design, art, and sometimes engineering. Thankfully we all get to equally try our hand in each of these facets individually as well as collectively. Which helps the groups growth on one accord at a steady pace. We’re a genuine group of nine friends who are more like brothers. We take pride in every facet we’ve involved ourselves in and honestly, I’m excited for the future we’re setting up for ourselves. Truthfully I couldn’t imagine where I’d be without them.
What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been the reserved, observant type. I was never much of a loud or attention-seeking kind of person. I’d speak when spoken to or not speak at all. I was use to doing things by myself, so I’ve never been reliant on anyone or asking people for favors. Being humble is just who I am, I could never think of myself too highly. If anything, self-confidence has been the most fluctuating area that I’ve thankfully gotten better at. I always found myself interested in more physically interactive things. Like skating, sports, fishing, and nature. I’m actually a pretty big car enthusiast. I’ve never really cared much for the flashy foreign cars or supercars. My first two vehicles were a Monte Carlo SS and a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. A huge life goal of mine is to someday have a garage full of my dream classic muscle cars and trucks.
