Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Stewart.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Brittany. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
TheHangerXchange came to me in 2011 as just an idea of wanting to sell all of the amazing thrifted items that I would pick up from yard sales, thrift stores, and antique sales from time to time. I started off with selling on eBay, but with school, work, and life, I wasn’t able to go as hard as I wanted to. Fast forward to 2017, I got married and decided I’d begin selling my clothes on my own website. I was having a great time selling all of my great finds, however I knew that I wanted more. I love to wear thrifted items, but I also love to wear new and more contemporary pieces as well. So I decided that I wanted to merge both my love of thrifted items and contemporary fashions. In 2020, I relaunched TheHangerXchange adding new Collections to accompany the awesome thrifted pieces.
Has it been a smooth road?
It is not been a smooth road. I am constantly searching for ways to showcase my passion to the world. I am still a full-time student at West Virginia University studying kinesiology and that takes a lot of time and commitment. But when you love fashion, you always make time and fight through the challenges. I am also married to my wonderful husband and have a wonderful bonus son who I love dearly. Between being a full-time student wife, friend, daughter, sister, and so many other things it becomes a total balancing act. But I wouldn’t have it any other way!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the TheHangerXchange story. Tell us more about the business.
I carry many hats with TheHangerXchange. I am the buyer, the stylist, the photographer, the social media manager, the accountant, and everything else you can think of! What I specialize in is having an eye for putting together different patterns, textures, and fabrics. I love to dress with a unique sense of style with bright colors and love to match my mood with my clothing which is normally pretty vibrant! I love to give the same experience to my customers! I love to showcase statement jewelry statement patterns and really be creative! I think what really sets me apart from other fashion boutiques Is that I give them the opportunity to delve into both thrifted and new contemporary items. I give them the opportunity to travel to their own fantasy land at TheHangerXchange. The world can be pretty rough, getting dressed shouldn’t have to be!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Over the next 5 to 10 years, I see the industry continuing to allow people to be who they are and to express themselves through fashion. I think less and less fashion will be about brand names and will be more about your own unique style and sharing it with the world. I think it will become more OK for people to showcase their wardrobe in the way that makes them feel their happiest.
