Today we’d like to introduce you to Cathrin Machin.
Cathrin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Today is a new day.
And if you want, you can choose to be a totally new person. You have permission to reinvent yourself day after day until you find a “you” that works.
Five years ago, I was a high flying video game executive producer and I hit a point of no return. Working seven days a week and away from home for 16 hours a day, I couldn’t function.
I had a pretty intense nervous breakdown followed by a handful of ayahuasca ceremonies, rather unsurprisingly it leads me to realize what my life’s purpose is…to connect people to the stars.
Frankly, I highly recommend everyone has at least a few nervous breakdowns in their lives. Because there was no going back from it. I had to change and move forward regardless of how scary it was.
Over the next few months, I started to teach myself how to paint, and within a year, my artwork went on to raise 100k a year and has almost doubled in size every year since. Now employing a team of seven and allowing us to create huge public art projects.
Ever since I’ve been dreaming of building a huge suspended galaxy.
Last year we started to action our plan to make an 8m (26ft) diameter SLS 3D printed milky way galaxy chandelier made from crystal clear resin and suspended from thousands of fiber optic cables.
To create it, we’ve been working with the European Space Agencies GAIA mission data and several data scientists and which has allowed us to 3D map the REAL milky way galaxies star positions and luminosity from the space mission data.
Once it’s built, I’m going to be donating it to a worthy establishment (or establishments) because well stuff like this hardly ever gets made and donated, so why not.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No journey is complete without some challenges, from having an intense international travel schedule to COVID lockdowns, factory closures resulting in hundreds of thousands of dollars of lost stock and project delays,
Ultimately its what has made the journey interesting and is nothing we can’t handle.
Please tell us more about your art.
For everyone who thinks the universe is bloody incredible.
And who is dissatisfied that they can’t find high-end Astro artwork that inspires them.
I produce huge oil paintings and prints of galaxies that glow-in-the dark for up to 8 hours.
Unlike boring paintings of bowls of fruit.
Our artwork reconnects you with the stars and inspires you to think about the biggest questions in the universe.
To make this all happen, we developed a revolutionary glow in the dark printing process that took two years to develop and over a quarter of a million in and so far.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Opportunity dances with those on the dance floor.
Everything has been a series of very fortunate events, but events that occurred because of hard work and ingenuity.
I’m not one to believe in bad luck, its a matter of perspective, all my challenges and failures have led to lessons and understanding that were critical to our current success.
I wouldn’t change a thing.
