Meet Naaman Smith Jr of Perfect Pint Productions in Downtown LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Naaman Smith Jr.

Naaman, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all started when I was a little boy. I used to love watching my dad play drums at church and often would sit by the musicians every Sunday just to act like I’m playing with them. I have always had a passion for music since I was six and that passion for music turned into something great. I would try to play any instrument that I could get my hands on. I started playing percussion at Meadowbrook middle school under the direction of Mario Ford and one day, he told the percussion that he needed tuba players and picked me. After picking up the tuba for about two weeks, I advanced to the first chair in the band, stealing the first chair from the previous tuba player who had been playing for about a year and a half. Mario Ford would always push his musicians to be better and would always sign us up for new opportunities to become better.

As I transitioned into high school, I joined a marching band at Edgewater high school under the direction of Bruce green. It felt as though once I started playing in the band at Edgewater that my challenge just started to blossom even more. I would love to showcase my talent through music, the tuba and my gift made room for me by allowing me to make the All-County Band which is a band where all of the best musicians from the county reside. I also worked my way up in band in high school and became the leader of the tuba section. While being in high school, I started making beats in music on my mom’s iPad. I would often stay up late just to make music on garage band. After doing that for almost two years, I transitioned into The real thing. I wanted to start getting serious with making music so I started making my music on logic X pro which is a huge step up from garage band. From that day, I have been so successful with making music and often look back at where I came from and smile to myself because I know that this is really what I love to do.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. I often found myself juggling with time between band and school and never really set time out to make music. Making music was a huge stress reliever for me ,so any time that I had I would dedicate to making music.

Perfect Pint Productions – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Perfect pint productions specialize in making Hip Hop/R&B music for artists in need of something that’ll stand out. I am known for making music for young unsigned artists. I am most proud of where I came from and where I am today. Looking back on where started, I came a very long way and my music matured in the process. What sets me apart from others would be my age and creativity. There is no other sound like mine out there.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success by meeting a goal because of the hard work and dedication that you put in to meeting that standard. The criteria for success is repetition, burning the midnight oil, and concentration. My markers I look for are checkpoints.
