Today we’d like to introduce you to Joel Flynn.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Joel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a Valley boy growing up in Burbank I played many sports. I found a huge passion for golf in my early 20’s after a few years in the Colorado Rockies snowboarding semiprofessionally. I moved to San Diego and attended earned a degree in Golf Course Management which kicked off a 20 year assistant professional career at various club including Los Angeles Country Club, RanchonSante Fe Golf Club, and a few others, most recently Valencia CC. After leaving the business to pursue other interests in 2013 I decided to build my own teaching studio on my property in Toluca Lake and leave the management and club elements of being a PGA professional behind allowing me the flexibility to raise my two young sons with my immensely supportive wife Traci. Business has steadily grown since opening doors in 2016 to well over 100 clients and growing. I am and have been hugely passionate about the game of golf and the swing for many years and have study the swing to great lengths in search of the applicable fundamentals that allow consistency and efficiency foremost. I have a rather pioneering teaching method that produces great results and we’re very affordable.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The difficulty has been in getting the word out and gaining publicity and new clients. We invested heavily in an aggressive yelp advertising program as well as health expos, donations, and free seminars at local golf courses and stores. Only in the last 8 months did we see these programs begin to drive business and today we are steadily growing and will likely expand to a larger facility within the next year to support more growth. We are considering North Hollywood.
Please tell us about Flynn Golf Lab.
We teach the game of golf. First and foremost how to SWING the golf club. We use a state of the art golf simulator that provides data critical to understanding swing/shot analysis and feedback. The luxury of teaching in a private studio allows clientele to relax and fully focus. Second we teach how to PLAY in on course playing lessons at local courses developing a players course management, confidence and strategy. I’m exceedingly proud or teaching philosophy and results.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Skiing with my family in Big Bear at Snow Valley or camping in Lake Tahoe Emerald Bay. I adore being outdoors!
