Meet Keri Haarhoff of Keri Brye Ceramics in Agoura Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keri Haarhoff.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Keri. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started taking ceramics while living in Australia and learned from a wonderful teacher. When I returned to the States, I struggled to find a ceramics studio close to me. I found myself searching for community. As any artist knows, it can be very isolating to work on your own every day. I love parts of that lifestyle but I love being around others as well. I started giving small classes out of my home studio to fill that need and it’s blossomed from there. Before COVID, I was active doing community craft shows and boutiques. But now, I offer small classes (with masks) and it’s been wonderful and rewarding. During quarantine, I’ve been very inspired to create and explore what motivates me to make art in the first place. I’m currently working on a couple of different wall installations which is very exciting.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Beginning to teach and offer classes has been a very smooth transition for me. I went from working on my own all day and selling at craft fairs to sharing my time with a few other awesome people. I have a lot of time to make and create on my own and then I look forward to seeing my students every week and see what they come up with. It’s a nice balance for me.

Please tell us about Keri Brye Ceramics.
Keri Brye Ceramics is a pottery studio which creates bespoke handmade ceramics and offers small, intimate classes with one on one instruction.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my favorite childhood memories is camping in Yosemite. My family used to go for two weeks every summer and hike the waterfalls and swim and raft the river. It was majestic and heavenly to me to be immersed in nature and the beauty of Yosemite Valley.
