Today we’d like to introduce you to Tricia Myers.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Tricia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a teen, I actually started out on the other side of the camera. I was solely into modeling in my younger years so it is a shock to me that I ended up on this side of the camera. I’ve been in photography for a little over a year now and there are two factors that landed me here today. The first being my boyfriend, he is a photographer and has been for the last two years. When we met, he was developing his photography and I would accompany him on his shoots just to watch. Soon enough, he would ask me to take portraits of him on his camera. At first, it was all fun and games, and then over time, I found myself fairly invested in what he did. After a lot of saving and some hard thinking, I went ahead and purchased my camera in May of 2019. I joined the team canon and got myself the same camera as my boyfriend, a 77D.
At the time, I meant to make photography a small hobby, something I did here and there. That all changed in November of 2019, my dad passed away at the beginning of November and it was a lot to deal with at the time. I’ve never experienced losing someone so close before and I didn’t understand the feelings of grief let alone how to cope with it. I went through a long period of isolating myself at home after the funeral. It wasn’t until I started doing photoshoots again that I found myself in a better place. Because of photography, I was able to work through the grief and anxiety. For me photography has become my peace, in the midst of everything, my camera is my light. I know everyone says, photography is a form of expression but for me it is more than that, it saved me.
Has it been a smooth road?
I would say that my road was a smooth as any other photographers as they start out. There are always bumps that you have oversee especially in your first year. I am thankful that I had my boyfriend (@top.tira) as a mentor and partner as we build our brand together. The challenges span from learning how to edit to establishing yourself. Editing was one of the easier challenges to overcome, but getting paying clients, that was harder. Outside of photography, I am a recruiter, so I was able to use my knowledge towards appealing to an audience. Of course, this is something that I am continuing to build out, but I am in a much better place financially than I was last year.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the @Hellotrishh Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
Well, our business is something that we are actually working on now, my boyfriend and I are working on launching our photography website and establishing a name for our brand. I specialize in portraits and that is also what I am known for. I think what I am most proud of is my progression through Photoshop and learning how to manipulate photos. I think what sets me aside from the others is that there aren’t many female photographers that dabble in photo manipulation, but yet here I am.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think in 5-10 years, photography can and will shift from being male dominant to a level playing field of males and females.
