Meet Bobby Caldwell of Safehouse Enterprises in NoHo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobby Caldwell.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m about to be your favorite artist. I knew I was gifted with music, especially lyrics since elementary school. I literally got into a lot of trouble for making music in some form or another during school. In fourth grade, my mother had to have me moved to a different homeroom class because Ms. Johnston thought that me writing songs after completing my homework IN CLASS served as insubordination and a distraction.

I began picking up beat-making around 2006 following the wave of popularity that came to the Soulja Boy song, “Crank That.” I got a copy of FL Studio 7 and never looked back. I started taking beat-making serious during the fall of 2016.

I really started my recording career the fall of 2014. With the help of Doc Genius, I became proficient at recording myself. He taught me the basics of recording myself. I was quickly HOOKED on every aspect of music creation. Fast forward to 2020, I’ve vowed to give myself a good old “college try” at finding success in the music industry. I’ve seen some many pitfalls and follies of other artists and industry workers. Now it’s just time to make some new mistakes. I hope that you’re along for the ride.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been far from smooth. I dropped out a few times, losing full-ride scholarships twice. I got my two years a couple of years back.

On the music side, I’ve always had Hendrix Smoke backing 100% of the way but starting out, we had plenty of doubters and low-ballers.

I lived in L.A. for about a year and worked alongside Hendrix Smoke, Adam On The Track, DJ Laflare, and Rojas On The Beat for a Warner Brothers subsidiary. It was an eye-opening experience but getting caught up to speed was far from easy.

Figuring out how to deal with my vices was a huge struggle.

Losing my great-grandmother was blow to me, but it really didn’t compare to the emotional beating 2019 dished out to me. My little brother Damani was murdered only seven days into the year. My friend Jamal “Fruits” Henderson died to an overdose. My homegirl Tayler Riley OD’d. My godmother Joanette “Joanie” Brown died to some health complications. A day later, my big homie, O’Ryan “O” Jones also OD’d. I was numbed out for a good while; I’m just lucky I had gotten my vices under control by the time the pain really began to settle in.

Legal issues plagued me from summer 2019 til today (albeit much less serious now)

I still managed to complete my 4-year degree (if only to make my grandmother happy) that December of 2019.

Please tell us about Safehouse Enterprises.
My brand is visceral and vivid imagery in the vain of ascension. Basically, I want the left brain and right brain to both get their way, get out of their own way, and get on the way to success. I’m known for being extremely hands-on and unconventional with how I approach things, but GETTING RESULTS IS PARAMOUNT. I want to portray my perspective from someone ascending from urban and what some may consider bleak circumstances (for any number of reasons) to self-made boss. The perspective is what sets me apart because my experiences have afforded me a rich memory bank to pull from so that when I put a finished product before someone, they know they’ve been considered in some capacity, rather than disregarded because my immediate demographic may not share the same positions and views 100%.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Self-starting and abundance mentality. I’ve been dead-crack broke before and for a short while, I lived off a girl that would’ve given the world to me in an instant. That’s not the move. In my quest to elevate to my higher self, I’ve grown into to the early-rising and seemingly machine-like workhorse that I am now. I throw myself and my resources into my work immediately after doing the research (or not) and make the most out of what I am given. The last thing I can allow to happen is a lackluster, lackadaisical, half-baked product to have my name attached to it because I tried to under-invest my time or cheap out on the expense of doing something the way it must be done.
