Today we’d like to introduce you to Nichelle Quiocson.
Nichelle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been interested in the arts ever since I was a kid! Growing up, I wanted to be a musician and an actress. In high school, I started learning more about photo and video and would help all of my classmates film their English projects (I even made a parody rap video for my Calculus class).
In 2015, I dropped out of college to pursue a career in the arts. I tried pursuing music, film, and photography – but nothing was clicking. Eventually, I discovered photoshop editing, and that’s when everything changed! I spent the next couple years honing my craft, quit my job working at an Amazon warehouse, and eventually went on to work for a digital marketing agency.
Fast forward to today, and I’ve been fortunate enough to work with companies like Storyblocks, Hydrant, and even Adobe!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I grew up in a stereotypical Asian American home, so there was bound to be some resistance with me pursuing a career in the arts. Every conversation I’d have with my parents, aunts, uncles, etc. would always end with them telling me to just become a nurse. Thankfully, everyone is more supportive now compared to before, but that wasn’t always the case.
I also struggled with my self-esteem and still do. When you’re dealing with that much pushback and resistance, it’s hard to believe in yourself. No matter what industry you’re in, I feel like the biggest struggle we all go through is knowing whether or not we’re good enough to be doing what we’re doing.
KIOXON – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
KIOXON specializes in humanizing a company’s message through photo, video, and design. We help brands develop personality-driven content across their social media accounts and build stronger relationships between them and their audience.
What sets us apart is the human aspect of it. A lot of companies think that their content needs to be perfect and pristine, but at the end of the day – people connect with people, not faceless corporations. Whether it’s a photoshop edit, a website design, or a product video – it’s important to me that we create consciously and make things that have the potential to form deeper connections between a brand and their customers.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Recently, I had the opportunity to work with Adobe on a video utilizing one of their newer apps, Adobe Rush. I always dreamed about working with them, but I never thought it was possible. To be able to actually check this off of my bucket list feels absolutely incredible!
