Today we’d like to introduce you to Cecilia Encizo.
Cecilia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Originally, I started off with photography, the last two years of high school I got into some photography classes and just learned the basics and found that I really enjoyed landscape and architectural photography. After going into community college, I got more into editing and graphic design before moving onto the film side. I started at The Los Angeles Film School originally wanting to study Cinematography. For the first year I stuck to that and did camera operating as well as camera assisting, it wasn’t until the second year where I took a class going through Line Producing and I immediately knew that’s what I wanted to do. Since then I’ve been a Line Producer on a handful of student projects, and am slowly making my way into indie films. Currently I’m working on a few thesis films with many talented and creative people as well as trying to get my head in the door with features.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Thankfully I have very supportive family and friends, so even on my low days I still have them as motivation. One of the toughest obstacles was having to balance my job with my projects. I knew that I couldn’t give them both the right amount of attention without it affecting the other, so I am now a full-time work for hire Line Producer.
Work For Hire – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’ve actually have had the pleasure of meeting two very talented Producers at the LA Film School, and we are currently working on starting up our Production Company. I for one Line Produce, Joe Kunkel does UPM and Creative Producing, and Matt Booncompar does Creative Producing. We all work very well together and once we’re set on something; the passion really shows in our work.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
A lesson I learned was to be more vocal. I’ve always been an introvert and social anxiety, so talking to new people was something that I definitely had to practice and get used to. If I could go back, I would start networking right from the start.
