Meet Keenan Spencer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keenan Spencer.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Keenan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I got into voice acting through on camera acting. I was working as a child actor and after my first ADR, I was hooked! I loved being in the recording booth more than being in front of the lens. I felt like there was so much more room for character creation! In the booth, you are not restricted to your appearance! You can play any gender, age, etc. You could transform into any being or non-human creature. Your creativity is limitless in the booth! Voice over is always such an awesome challenge and the industry is constantly expanding into different realms. I switched entirely to professional voice acting about seven years ago and haven’t turned back since! 🙂 I have voiced commercials, animated movies and television, promos, books, apps, radio, etc.! The voice over community is also so supportive and incredibly welcoming and friendly! It’s been a pleasure connecting and working with other voice actors and being inspired by their talent as well over the years.

One job I am currently working on is an amazing app. called Elly! It is the first voice companion for Cancer patients and survivors. I am the voice of Elly and it has been a pleasure to record and share the beautiful stories of hope for many people living with Cancer providing them with helpful information and inspiration. I am also on a popular animated children’s series called God’s School about the famous Greek God’s experience in high school on Mount Olympus. I play the main antagonist and goddess Hera. It’s been so much fun to work on and the artwork/animation is incredible! The response and love from the children and fans have been amazing! I have a lot more fun projects in the works that will be coming out next year that I am looking forward to sharing. I highly recommend that anyone looking to enter the biz to seek out a mentor on social media that has been in VO for many years with lots of experience and knowledge to share. Most folks in the voice community are happy to educate and help out! Start now! There is room in the biz and lots of projects available for hungry and talented actors!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Luckily it has been a smooth and fun road! Any challenges I have experienced in this business have been educational. Ultimately I am very grateful as they have helped me develop as an artist and pushed me to become better at my job. I find the challenges fun overall. Failing is part of the job! You have to stumble to learn and grow. Being afraid of failing is crippling and defeatist. You have to be willing to stretch outside your comfort zone and mess up, otherwise you won’t stand out among the thousands of submissions to the job you want.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I voice all kinds of characters! I have played babies, young boys, girls, princesses. Evil queens, robots, animals, you name it! I enjoy playing with a range of voices!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has played a role for sure because I was lucky enough to be born and raised in LA/ the entertainment capital. I grew up around entertainment and fell in love with it early on. I am very lucky in that sense, and I feel very fortunate to have supportive family and friends around me who push me to pursue my dreams.
