Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamila Hache.
Jamila, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m the youngest one in my family and my older brother is mentally handicapped. I became very aware of how different humans are at a very early stage of my life (I believe it was because of my brother) and since then, I became very outspoken. My parents realized this and tried to reinforce me in positive ways by turning my desire to communicate my thoughts and ideas, through art. They signed me up for dance classes, acting lessons, music, painting, and since then, I knew expressing myself artistically was I wanted to do for the rest of my life and that’s how I got here today!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No… But I appreciate every opportunity so much more because it has been tough.
When I was 11, my parents decided to send me away to my aunt’s house in Ohio, US due to the extremely complicated political situation in my home country (Venezuela). Living away from my parents was a struggle. Not having proper guidance to navigate through the industry was very tough, as well as not knowing anyone.
Other struggles include not getting paid for work and having to say yes to projects that don’t really make me happy but can help me to meet more people.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m an actress, Voice Over talent and Singer. I’ve had the chance to work in soap operas and be the Announcer voice of brands like Comcast, McDonalds, State Farm among others.
More recently, I had the incredible opportunity to voice the character “Tambora” in the new movie “Trolls World Tour” and sing the lines in Spanish on the song “Just Sing.”
I also released my new single “Contra el Suelo” as well as my book “Yo Soy, Y Tu Quien Eres?” – Available on Amazon.
Currently and due to the pandemic, I’m lucky to continue working remotely doing Voice overs while also developing my own projects.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would listen to myself more.
