Today we’d like to introduce you to Logan Allison.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started with a blog. In college, my best friend, Brianna McDonnell, wanted to start a plus size fashion blog and needed a photographer. I just so happened to be taking a photography class and had my camera so we went to this little tunnel under the freeway in Tarzana and shot her very first look. I struggled with the camera, we spent hours just trying to get the right shots, we fought the setting sun, we laughed, and a partnership was born. Since then, Brianna’s blog has grown and it’s taken us to San Francisco, New York Fashion Week, and even being featured in Cosmopolitan!
This past fall as we were crossing the Brooklyn bridge, Brianna turned to me and asked, “Logan why don’t you post about your interests”? I laughed at first and then paused because I realized she was right! Over the years, I had gained this new affinity for fashion and style but also loved so many other things but always kept it to myself or only shared it with my friends, so why not combine everything I love and give it to the world?
Thus, my personal page was born. I switched my Instagram from a heinous ala AIM name to just simply my name and added the sub-caption of Storytelling Through Style where I now do just that! I use fashion, cosplay, and even “Disneybounding” to communicate my interests, fandoms, concepts, and hopefully yours!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
So my main struggle has been time. I work a full-time job that I am so grateful to have, especially during this time of quarantine. I work for the Gary Sinise Foundation, which is a veteran and first responder service organization founded by actor and humanitarian, Gary Sinise, who most of you probably know as Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump! And it has truly been such a wild ride as I never saw myself entering into the world of charitable fundraising.
You know as a theatre major, I always figured that I would spend my days auditioning and trying to find my one lucky break. So when this amazing foundation fell into my lap, it was an enormous shift. I mean, working a “9-5” really eats at all your time, but it tests your determination and dedication to your other interests. My style page became a second job. My life has become a juggling act of, if I’m not coordinating three fundraisers that are going to happen across the country, then I’m pounding the pavement and hitting the thrift stores on Magnolia to then later change into 12 different outfits in two hours like a mad man on the side of the road or in my car to try and snap a quick picture.
And I can’t really complain or say it’s a hardship. Especially during these times, I try to stay fully aware and check myself to make sure that I know that my job is a blessing and that it gives me privileges that others don’t have! But like anyone, if I just had a bit more time to take a moment to breathe or give myself more time to create, that would be a gift!

So let’s be honest. We live in Los Angeles where you will see a blogger or Instagram model on every corner… their boyfriend is risking their life by laying down in the middle of the street, the model’s perfectly sculpted ice cream is melting in their hand, and someone just walked through their photo in front of a pink wall! And no shade as I have been the “boyfriend” in the street a million times.
So this is where the old actor saying of “owning your niche” comes into play! I guarantee that what I create and share with the world is completely different than anyone else by putting my whole self into it. People will have similar interests, and you’re banking on that because those are the people that you hope that what you create will connect with, but you have to apply your unique lens for people to look at that interest or concept and enjoy what you see!
What I think sets me apart is my history, and that I’ve dipped my toes into so many different worlds and here I aim to bring them all together! I want to give you the fandom you love but use my experience in fashion and theatre to make it high fashion, high quality, editorial, dramatic and also a little silly, because I am!
Some of my favorite things that I have done are my gender-bent concepts. I’ve done stuff from Elphaba from Wicked to a styled to the nines Mary Poppins complete with a miniature carpet bag! And I love these as they are not only styled from my own mind but if you’re a fan of these bodies of work you will hopefully love not only revisiting your favorite characters but seeing them communicated beyond the screen or stage and through someone you didn’t expect!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
If what I make brings a smile to someone’s face than I have been successful. Yes, I have dreams and aspirations of becoming a top nerd blogger, and of one day walking the runway as my favorite character and leaving everyone speechless. Of signing that contract where I get to do this for the rest of my life or that this has brought me to a new medium that will take me even further in my career.
But, nothing brings me more joy of when I have spent hours dreaming up a look in my head, I have hunted down the perfect coat or shoes to bring it to life, and when I post it… someone sees that detail and appreciates it. I get messages about my things where people are like, “don’t think I didn’t notice that you tucked a flower into that hat” or “that you went so far as to build a shrine in your living room!?” or “this took me straight back to my childhood, thank you”! That’s what makes me sit back, smile and go yeah, yeah I did that and it was a blast.
