Meet Peter Karlsson of PKsilverdesign in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Karlsson.

Peter Karlsson is a Swedish designer based in Los Angeles who specializes in the design and creation of sterling silver jewelry and handcrafted leather accessories like belts bracelets necklaces bags and more. He’s influenced by the design heritage of Scandinavia and seeks to imbue his work with modern and clean line aesthetics of his native land for over 20 years and loves creating high-end jewelry working with the finest materials, Peter uses hand hammered techniques to seamlessly join modern and old styles together to create beautiful pieces. Inspired by a family heritage of talented artists, including a mom who crafts leather and a sister who designs knitwear, Peter strives to create a line of jewelry that is timeless and memorable.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
After growing up in beautiful and cold Sweden I really appreciate sunny California, as a kid my mom was often crafting with leather and fabric making us kids clothing, leather jackets, leather caps, etc. Funny and sad at the same time, I did not appreciate it, but now as an adult of course I understand how special it was. My dad was often down in the garage hammering and fixing something – handyman stuff, and me taking after them I was in my room taking some old radio apart from grandpa that he wanted to recycle. I loved to make unique inventions and was always creating projects.

Over the years, I’ve also enjoyed creating pottery and woodworking. From an early age, I fell in love with and studied martial arts, me as a boy sitting on the floor eating popcorn with chopsticks LOL made my mom pretty confused, and it’s still a passion for me to this day. In the mid 90’s in Sweden, I started to explore making jewelry professionally in sterling silver and leather; I loved the déjà vu feeling of the smell of leather goods and sound of hammering from my dad in the garage. I love the challenge of creating unique designs and to make my jewelry comfortable to wear as everyday pieces. It’s very nice to work with a client that wants something special for themselves, family or friends and after I finished the item and the client is happy that makes me feel great.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’ve also been working more with environmentally friendly recycled sterling silver and materials in many designs.

I take pride in working with my clients and collaborating their wishes and special designs providing them with first-class service from start to finished product.

I’m currently working on a new collection that’s going to be all one-of-a-kind.

That’s what I do best at PKsilverdesign.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been creative and like to challenge myself with new ideas for designs.

My goal is making people happy with my timeless designs and feeling that the jewelry is something that they can wear and cherish for many years to come.

I’m proud and also very grateful to have my Sister Suss a Knit Designer here in LA.
