Meet Fabiola Mucito of Cordova Organic Spray Tan in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fabiola Mucito.

Fabiola, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was introduced to spray tanning at a spa that I worked at. I imminently loved the results of a spray tan. With a spray tan, I felt confident to wear outfits I would have otherwise not wear. At that moment, I did not think that I would ever be a spray tan technician. I was happy working at the spa as a front desk coordinator and enjoying the free spray tans. Soon, an opportunity came along. I had been owed a large enough sum of money by a guy who happened to have a part time spray tanning service business. Since he couldn’t pay me back in time I asked him to compensate me part of the money with a spray tanning machine, product and other items to start my own spray tanning service business. 7 years later I have been blessed to still be in business. I have met some wonderful people along the way and have had wonderful experiences that I would have otherwise not had. My story of how I got started is not a happy one, but I decided to make a problem into an opportunity.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Spray tanning has been my first experience working for myself. It is easy to assume that it must be great as I can set my desired work hours and do not have to answer to an employer. Well, yes this is all true and it is really great, haha. At the same time though, when problems arise I am the only one responsible to find a solution. Also, it has been my experience to find it difficult, to set and follow a set work schedule. In my business, most weeks it is difficult to guess if it will be a good week or a slow one. I often feel the need to over book clients even if it means it will cut out time for my personal life……First world problems, huh?

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Cordova Organic Spray Tan story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in custom airbrush spray tans. I like to do medium levels of color, but I will also do a dark tan when requested. I use an organic, eco certified spray tan product. I use protective disposable gear for the hair, ears and nose. I do my best to keep the nails, palms and soles of feet clear of tanning product.

I am most proud of the retention of repeat clients. These people are so important to me, because of them I have been able to have a 7-year spray tanning service business. Some of my repeat clients have become good friends of mine. I look forward to their appointments because I know that I’ll be able to catch up with them.

What sets me apart is me, simply me, who I am. The client will find and stay with the person or business they feel more comfortable with.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Haha, there is no such thing as luck. Events don’t just happen to you without you having something to do with it. Whether its “good or bad luck” you were somehow connected to that event before it happened. Thoughts, beliefs and actions are the stepping stones to everything that happens.
