Meet Lori Kahn of OM Laguna Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Kahn.

Lori, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After working in the fashion industry in LA, I got married and moved to Laguna Beach. Life changed dramatically getting married and having kids, and stress was at an all-time high! I changed careers and became a certified Hatha Yoga instructor, and a Mindfulness Meditation teacher and Integrative Coach.

I had a small studio in Laguna Beach for many years and was happily working small. An opportunity came up to take ownership of a large premier yoga studio, and I took the leap, merging the two businesses, which is now known as OM yoga+ meditation at OM Laguna Beach. I combined the best of mindfulness practices with a studio featuring over 50 classes in yoga + meditation and one on one wellness services, including massage, energy work, reiki, breathwork and more, as well as special wellness-based workshops and speakers series.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing is ever smooth, but I believe because of my own yoga + meditation practice I have the skills to ride the struggles with more ease and grace! I spend more of my time now with administration of a big busy studio and all that entails from teachers, scheduling, customer engagement, marketing, community collaborations, technology, and legal and tax forms. As anyone who has done this kind of business knows, it is rarely smooth, and always changing, but I try to live and work by the foundations of mindfulness in business, which is primarily to “love the work, do the work, don’t be an expert, depend on others and keep making it simple!”!

Please tell us about OM Laguna Beach.
I merged two businesses that were already well known in the community increasing our offerings tenfold. We started with yoga and meditation and now have the best in classes and Holistic Wellness Services both for groups and individuals.

By merging these concepts, I am bringing together the best of what Laguna Beach and Orange County have to offer under one umbrella. I call it the “Wellness Collective”. All the different modalities of what we do at OM are usually done as separate businesses, but we have it all available in one space and with parking (which is a big thing in Laguna Beach) and surrounded by restaurants, markets and more, we can cross pollinate each other’s businesses. It’s tough being in the Wellness business, but by bringing everyone together to support each other, we all have a better chance at success and most importantly longevity!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I always say I don’t know what I don’t know but I’m always willing to learn and grow. I have no regrets (so far)! I think the way everything came together, both in my own experience, training and work and all the people I have gotten to know and worked in the community for the last 20 years, it all came together organically. So I wouldn’t change a thing!
