Today we’d like to introduce you to Roger DiLuigi.
Roger, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started working as a Contract Product Demonstrator for Nintendo out of college in Chicago and was planning to move to Seattle to start work at Nintendo of America HQ there. While living in college and saving to move to Seattle, I started doing YouTube as a hobby and my first major video, a cover song of “Let I Go”, jump started my Youtube career and got me noticed by a number of entertainment companies in LA. I eventually got hired doing social media work in Los Angeles which I saw as my first stepping stone to getting to where I wanted to be on the West Coast.
While doing contract social media work for clients like ABC and Microsoft, I continued to post regularly on my YouTube channel. Eventually, in early 2017, after surpassing 100K subscribers on YouTube, I quit my social media jobs and went full time on YouTube. I’ve been a content creator full time ever since, creating weekly content on my YouTube channel RogersBase and still work with Nintendo regularly as part of their Brand Ambassador program.
Has it been a smooth road?
The toughest thing since going full time has definitely been learning the ins and outs of the YouTube platforms. Dealing with things like copyright claims, demonetization of my content and the ever adjusting YouTube algorithm is a daily struggle. The positives far outweigh the negatives and I love what I do which is why I keep doing it. Thankfully, I’m in a position now where my revenue is supplemented by regular brand deals with companies that I love like Nintendo, The Pokemon Company, Dell, Alienware, VIZ, etc. as well as paid subscribers on Twitch and YouTube, and merchandise.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with RogersBase – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Roger “RogersBase” DiLuigi is a video producer, entertainer, host and streamer with a focus on anime, manga, gaming and lifestyle content. Each week on the RogersBase YouTube channel, I host weekly live reactions and reviews of the One Piece manga, readthrough livestreams of manga series and weekly Nintendo Switch gameplay coverage and news coverage! I also upload music and vlogs from events and my travels! My first trip to Japan is fully chronicled on my channel.
I’m proud of the fact that I was one of the 2016 winners of YouTube’s Next Up program highlighting quality content creators as well as my roster of brands that I regularly partner with. I don’t know many video game streamers or anime fans who can say they’ve worked with food brands like McDonald’s and Cracker Barrel on social campaigns while also working the many of the biggest names in gaming such as Nintendo, Bandai Namco, Dell, Alienware and Pokemon as well as the biggest names in the anime/manga space such as VIZ Media, Crunchyroll, VRV and Toei Animation!
My music’s been featured on Playbill and I’m also regularly invited as a media guest to conventions such as C2E2, E3, Anime Expo, IGEC, EVO and more.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I absolutely adore the can-do attitude of the people of Los Angeles as well as their diversity! And who could hate the incredible weather! I’m not a fan of the traffic but as someone who primarily works from home, that’s hardly been an issue for me.
Also, being so close to Disneyland is a dream come true for me!
