Conversations with the Inspiring Gisela Prishker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gisela Prishker.

Gisela, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I felt in love with photography when I was 14. It all started when I was working as a model, I enjoyed being in front of a camera, but I quickly realized that the magic was behind it. So, I began selling candy at school, with the money I bought cool outfits and started selling photoshoots to my classmates for $40 per session, plus the outfit! The first time I went into the darkroom I knew that I was going to be a photographer for the rest of my life. I remember my professor Mr. Jim Hicks advising me to pursue photography as my major, little did I know that photography will trigger my other passions, like traveling and fashion. I studied photography in Missoula Mt. My career started as a photojournalist, but I was more captivated by the beauty of an individual, I am all about developing ideas, finding the right light and the specific scenario that can express the true beauty of my client and my creativity.

As soon I was done with photography school at Rocky Mountains School of Photography I got hired as a fashion photographer and stylist at Boss Magazine in Tampa Florida. Later I became the art director, stylist and photographer for the Latin magazine Somos. I had the opportunity to shoot over 120 front covers for the magazine. This job opened so many opportunities working as an instructor, a mentor, and shooting many celebrities and fashion magazines mainly for the Latino market.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At some point, I realized that the next step was to bring my camera to the world. I worked in sales for a while, saved all my money and visited 65 countries during the last five years. During that time, I engaged in several international projects working for Cannes Film Festival, Dubai and New York Fashion Week, Dubai Fashion Forward as well as Hola Mexico Film Festival. I’ve been blessed to have worked with incredible fashion designers and photographed not only red carpets but beautiful people and sights from all around the world.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
People wonder how I did it. The answer is that I created the life I wanted to live. It was is not easy, it requires a lot of energy and discipline you must be smart with money, and most importantly you have passion and drive to manifest your dreams into reality. Keep going and never ever give up on your dreams.

I grew up with limited opportunities in a little town called Reynosa Tamaulipas in Mexico, but I always knew that it is about believing in yourself and that you are the only one that can make things happen.

It hasn’t been a smooth ride, but I have met amazing people that have helped me build my career and became my soul family. I am a very positive person, I love to sing, to laugh out loud and I just feel that nothing can stop me. My eyes are always looking for beautiful lighting and the beautiful settings.

It is about finding the opportunities, even now with social distancing with this Covid-19 pandemic and not able to have photo sessions with clients, I decided to engage in the world of Senior Care by assisting families find senior living and care options for their loved ones. The job is rewarding and you really make a difference by helping so many families navigate all the possible care options for seniors. Working for this agency Placement Helpers has allowed me to save money, and now I am in the process of opening my new studio in Pasadena, December, 1st.

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
If your dream is to travel the world my biggest advice will be have money saved for any incident that could happen. Follow your gut feeling, it will help your decisions in life. If it is in your heart, it’s real if not it will never be. If you are a solo traveler woman be aware of your surroundings and don’t trust too much be friendly but have limits.

And if your passion is photography and want to make it a career remember that dreams come true only if you work for them , don’t waste your time finding yourself create yourself do what you feel in your heart.

I am a photographer/and world traveler I love to capture moments, beauty and explore new things, new ideas, I talk to strangers that become my friends the best thing I have ever done for myself is creating the life I wanted to live those years traveling the world and capturing the world trough my lens has been by far the greatest experience in my life ,now I look back and say to myself what a ride.

As a photographer, I like to make people happy and feel confident through my photoshoots. For me is not just a photoshoot, it is about the connection that I create with my clients, I create a moment of trust, happiness. My job is to bring from the inside the beauty in every women or men, and make them look flawless. I am in love with beauty and I find it almost anywhere I go and in anyone I see, and if I don’t see it I create it. I don’t just click the shutter and charge for a photoshoot. I make sure that my clients, the celebrities, the models, a family has a moment of love and happiness. And for woman I will make sure that she feels like the hottest chick alive. That is pretty much my mission in photography to make people feel and look fantastic through my lens. You don’t have to be a model to be photographed by me but rest assure you will feel like one with the end results!
