Meet Doren Sorell and Emily Craig of Endless Lens Photography in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Doren Sorell and Emily Craig.

Doren and Emily, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started way back in high school (this is Doren Sorell speaking), fumbling along inside darkrooms learning photography from the “old school” film days. Over the years, I slowly started building my skills until it all moved to digital. I was and still am a fan of photography in general, hence why we shoot so many genres, but I feel we gravitate towards telling simple stories that focus on either people or products, taking what could be simple snapshots and bringing our their stories. That’s the challenge we love: taking a simple moment, or product, and bringing out its story and beauty.

Let me pass the keyboard over to Emily Craig:
Hi everyone, this is Emily. I have always loved taking things apart and putting them back together. Yes, I was THAT child. Designing shots, whether it’s a plate of food, useful product, or client’s wardrobe, seemed to be a natural extension of my need to create new and interesting things. It’s a lovely challenge to find the most unique way to give our subjects, both animate and inanimate, their proudest and most authentic voice.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road at all, but nothing worth anything is easy. We have had to really, in a step by step process, figure out not only how to challenge ourselves artistically, up our skills, and get amazing story-filled images for our clients, but also figure how to build a business from scratch. We’ve needed to figure out how to reach people, how to move people, how to understand what the market desires. All of this is a perpetual process, full of trial and error, evolving compromise, and a one-step-at-a-time mentality. But, looking back, we have grown, and we are both proud of where our work is at, and where we are headed.

Please tell us more about your work. What do you guys do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
We are a photography company that specializes in events, portraiture/headshots, and product photography. We are known for our event candid- and journalistic-feeling images and the stories they convey. That’s our aim: to tell a story that emanates emotion.

The thing that sets us apart, and that we’re most proud of is our relationship with our clients when we shoot. We strive to create an environment, in-studio or on set, where the client feels open and comfortable with us so we can capture authentic moments, especially with portraiture, where we use acting techniques to help the clients become more relaxed and real.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, our city is perfect. Los Angles is not only highly diverse but have the feel and energy that creatives and artistic types tend to gravitate towards. Clients, we believe, look for art; they want to see themselves, and things they love, in a beautiful and artistic light, and that’s what we aim to do; we paint with light to bring the truth of what we’re shooting out, and then craft it so it will shine (pun intended). LA is the perfect place for that, with its cityscapes, its diversity, and its lean towards the cinematic.

Pricing:

  • For actor headshots we start at $500 and $550 (men & women, respectively) for 4 looks, which includes makeup and hair.
