Meet Britney Speckert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Britney Speckert.

Britney, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up I was overweight and also a tall girl so I stood out a lot. I also grew up with all boys as I lived with my two older brothers and dad. I would get bullied not only for the weight but the way I dresses or how my hair looked. I grew up in small-town Lake Tahoe Nevada and I always loved acting growing up.

I did ballet and would join in the theater acting stuff within my ballet class. I did a few plays and would watch Disney channel religiously thinking about myself on there. Before my freshman year of high school, I flew out to LA and was apart of this whole acting & modeling event. I ended up getting signed at fourteen for acting and got the top 10 monologue from my state. At that time modeling was still very small and a size five or six was considered plus size. I remember my dad trying to get me to join the modeling part while we were in LA and me declining because I just knew I didn’t belong or wasn’t the ideal “look”.

During my high school years, I joined cheer and started to get into the gym and was starting to get a better outlook on myself. I had started to lose weight and after years of bullying and torment from being too “big” I started getting bullied for losing weight and had people say I was starving myself. It seems no matter what someone has an opinion on your body & self. After my senior year, I decided to move out to LA for college as well as get back into acting.

Once I got out here my whole outlook changed and I decided I wanted to start modeling to be an advocate for women who have dealt with bullying and overweight issues as I had. Someone real who had worked hard to get where there at. I switched up my Instagram as it’s my main platform that I focus everything on and started posting meal preps, compassion photos and opened up my DM’s for advice, etc. I was amazed at how many DMS I got and still get to this day and how much amazing feedback I’ve gotten. I try my best to try to model for work out brands or brands that support all body’s and just female and body power in general.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Body love is never a smooth road. There’s been of course many struggles with the way I view myself. As much love as I have for myself, years of bullying or harassment about your body really just cause you to overthink and causes body disformia. After losing the weight I started toning as well and that was another process. Modeling world also isn’t an easy and nice one. There are so many times I’ve been told no or wasn’t picked but I always pick myself up and keep going and there is always something even better handed to me.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I believe what sets me apart from others is I’m just unapologetically me. Unapologetically Britney. I speak up for what I love and is right. I’m honest about how hard I’ve worked and always respond to everyone and give the best advice or help I possibly can. I’m real, I worked hard for my body and my mental health and try to give that love back out into the world. Besides going to college and working in child care I use my modeling to not only do the work I’ve always wanted to do but to also have it go towards my platform. I try to do videos and interviews as much as I can.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me isn’t something you can hold in your hand like money or an object. It isn’t Instagram likes or Instagram followers. It’s how you feel after you have helped someone with the same issues as you, or how YOU feel when your at home at the end of your day by yourself. Do you feel warm like your doing what you love and there’s nowhere you would rather be and no person you would rather be? That’s success to me.
