Meet Justin Coleman of WhoIsColeman in The Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Coleman.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Los Angeles, and fortunate to be raised very supportive parents. As a kid, I always had a huge imagination and loved being creative. Still today, I am very intellectually curious and love learning new things and questioning why things are the way they are. However, in my career journey I chose more practical options, and after college entered the world of finance. I got a little older but my creative side never went away. My girlfriend went away to school on the east coast, and I was looking for ways to fill my newfound free time, so I started writing scripts and working with programs on my computer to make comedy videos with plot twists. I set out with the ambitious goal of putting out an original, quality video each week until the end of the year. This forced me to come up with a schedule so that I could manage my time properly for regular work and this new creative outlet. It also helped me figure out my style and get more comfortable with acting and my abilities. So far, I have 30+ videos on my channel with a new one each week and I love the community that has started to build for my comedy work.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s definitely been a challenge at times. The key for me is just staying disciplined and consistent. As I said, I do have a day job that is demanding and gets very busy at times. But having gone through this creative process so many times now, I’ve built structure into my development/filming/editing work that allows me to stay sane and not get overwhelmed each week. I thank my upbringing for my discipline and self-motivation.

Also, this is probably the last thing friends/people who know me would have expected. It’s always the quiet ones… Being a naturally more quiet, thoughtful person in my day-to-day life, the acting part wasn’t my strong suit in the beginning. However, with the support of my friends/fans/small community online, I’ve been thankful to have people that will give me honest feedback about various aspects of my videos. There is clearly a difference between my videos now and my videos from when I was starting out. I needed that feedback to go bigger and louder when acting. Don’t hold back or have reservations. Unfortunately for my neighbors, I incorporated that and love what it did for the feel of my videos. So I stay open to change and constructive criticism because everything helps.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with WhoIsColeman – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
From feedback from friends/family/fans I believe something that sets me apart is the quality and effort put into each of my videos. My videos cost almost nothing to make, yet because of the production quality, it doesn’t feel as “low budget” as it otherwise would when compared to other creators. I really try to set the scene and be thoughtful about the angles the cuts/transitions and the practical effects. So far, it’s been very fun. Always learning.

I am my own one-man production. I brainstorm, write scripts, act, film, edit, and add effects to my videos in a process that resets each week.

My content is mostly Comedy with some sort of Horror/Sci-fi twist to it. My creative is influenced but my love of Horror/Sci-fi/Comedy/Disney/Anime/Comics and whatever relevant current events I can work into my ideas.

Hope you check it out, enjoy, and let me know what you think!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan on continuing to make quality videos but changing it up a bit. Currently, I’ve focused a lot on Instagram, and hope to continue growth on there while potentially creating different content exclusive for YouTube to get more of a following there as well. Looking for more opportunities to collaborate with friends and other creators and just being open to opportunities. 2020 is my year for growth, improving my content, and building my fans/community more, so I am really looking forward to what’s coming next. Getting out there more and sharing my weird imagination with the world! Let’s go!
