Meet Mark Norashkarian of Markus Luxe Entertainment in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Norashkarian.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Mark. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story has truly been a journey of unexpected circumstance. I have always had a love, passion, and curiosity in music. Everything about it. The power that music yields in each and every person. It can affect us in so many incredible ways. It can make us happy, sad, excited, and even intensify current emotions that are being felt in the moment. As people, we use music to get us in the proper mood, get over an ex, or even find solace and peace to help endure the difficult times. I am no different. I decided a few years ago to convert my love and passion for music into a business. It started as a tutorial on how to DJ from a good friend of mine. I instantly fell in love and wanted to put my money where my mouth was. I made the choice to invest in my own equipment from A-Z. After being lucky enough to have the support and applause necessary, I ventured on to Deejaying clubs from Pasadena, to Orange County, and eventually Downtown LA and Hollywood hot spots. As much fun as that was, I wanted to start creating my own music. That brought me to learning the ins and outs of music production, sound design, and engineering. I now produce original music, as well as remixes of popular radio tunes on the side. In order to transform all of this into a fully functional business, I proceeded to start Markus Luxe Entertainment, where I provide mobile DJ entertainment for anyone with a desire or need to liven up an event or private ceremony.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The path to get where I am today was far from smooth, but I feel in some ways very necessary. In the early days of my career as a DJ, most of the business I had was contracted from different companies. I eventually started working side by side with a small business owner and his company Thousand Words Events. It was the first step to really making my dream come true, and having a job that didn’t feel like work. I was fortunate enough to sustain myself financially and focus on my music production at home at the same time. This all came to a screeching halt in August of 2014. I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Large Diffuse B-Cell Lymphoma Cancer. Beyond the obvious terror and sadness this diagnosis caused my family, as well as myself, it affected my work. Since I was being treated with Chemo and Radiation, I was no longer able to perform my office duties, but refused to cancel all of my booked DJ gigs over the weekend. I made sure I had sufficient rest during the week to make sure I was strong enough physically and mentally to work a wedding, dance, private event, or whatever I had previously committed to. As time went on, I eventually was no longer needed at the company on a 9-5 type basis, and had to figure out what to do. I decided to take things into my own hands and start my own business. With the knowledge I gained from Johan Suh and working at his company, Thousand Words Events, I felt I would be able to give it a shot. I proceeded to build my own website, work on marketing, publicity, and any other means to show the world I’m here and ready to continue to bring the best possible experience a DJ can bring.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Markus Luxe Entertainment – what should we know?
Markus Luxe Entertainment was created to provide exceptional service, quality, and take everything I have learned in the past, to curate the best night of someone’s life, through my music. I do consider myself more than just your average DJ. I do specialize in customizing the evening to every client’s desire. I do not just play generic popular music on the radio, I strive to truly make the event stand out on its own. Whether it’s a release party for a product, wedding ceremony, or even a crazy Hollywood club, I take deep dives into genres that fit the occasion. I’m usually known for going off the cuff and free styling to whatever the crowd is feeling at the moment. Reading the crowd is a very underrated skill that I do believe I possess, and use to the best of my ability. It is actually possibly the most important aspect of a DJ’s job. I am most proud of the fact that this company represents every struggle and unforeseen circumstance that has come my way. I have taken all of my lessons, good and bad, and continued to question myself on how and what I can improve upon. My struggle and perseverance to get here is what sets my company apart. This is not only because of what I’ve had to overcome individually, but mainly the fire it has brewed in my heart. I take pride in everything I do, and strive for excellence in every way. Markus Luxe Entertainment is a company that was built from the bottom up, for the purpose of putting smiles on faces, and feet on the dance floor.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Although I feel there is more than just one quality/characteristic to point to in regards to my current and potential success, if I had to choose one, it would have to be something that tends to drive me crazy. I am a huge perfectionist. That is not saying I ever reach this unattainable goal, to be clear. However, I will absolutely do everything in my power to make sure I have tried everything to get as close as possible to perfection. If I am working on a new song, I will never call it “finished” until I have given my all, and done my best with no exception. Most importantly, when working with a client, or potential client, I always put my time and care into the situation. I never work with trying to find short cuts. Much of this is because of my innate quality of pursuing “perfection.”
