Meet Chanae French of Zay L Collection in Compton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanae French.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Chanae. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always been into fashion since a child. My mother Doris French introduce me into the fashion world with her drawings of different designs and watching the style network. I also modeled as well.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth road No but I make it work. I’m a mother of two and I just birth my second son in May. I drive trucks for a living three days out the week. That’s my income for living and running this business. So imagine mixing in motherhood. It can be A lot but I get it done. So far on this road I’ve had some people that were not understanding at all. Also not much of a big help along the way but I’ve fixed the bugs. You have to keep pushing forward.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Zay L Collection – what should we know?
I started this company in June 2019, I wanted to have a boutique that has something for every woman. I specialize in plus size clothing because I have a lot of plus size women in my family and they express to me that it’s hard to find clothing. I’ve changed that for them.

I will be launching my own designs in 2020, plus-size collection as well.

Owning this boutique has warmed my heart to see women happy with their purchases. I’m glad to know I was able to do that. I love what I do in this little time that I’ve been open.

I’m not just into getting a sell. It’s about the customer and their needs I want to be able to help them find what they need and want so they won’t have to look elsewhere. I go as far as getting the product they’re looking for.

I have to give credit to my biggest supporter/ my partner Phil Marzette. He pushed me to become better than just good. Better than just great. I love him for that.
