Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanairy Felix.
Tanairy, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My career in events began as a hobby or side hustle when I was 17 years old, my boyfriend was a DJ and I used to be the “door girl” who would charge at the door for events. As I got older, it slowly developed from parties to events, to clubs. At 18, I landed a job as a receptionist for a marketing agency that produced festivals with over 250,000 in attendance along with other social events like concerts.
Though I was only a receptionist it gave me extreme exposure to different kinds of events which allowed me to grow into a project manager. I later moved agencies and took management roles which included managing the Mountain Dew tour for Southern California. It was during the tour while I was a senior in college that I discovered my business, Events by TF.
I randomly received a call from a client one day who said they had been referred to me as they were looking for a venue for their wedding. It was true, I knew almost every venue space in Los Angeles and Orange County and it was then that I discovered I could do something more like becoming an event planner and coordinator and from this wedding on, Events by TF was created and the rest is history.
It’s crazy how something as simple as a phone call can change the course of our career! You’ve built a successful practice, has it been a smooth road getting here?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. It’s almost safe to say, I had no idea what I was doing when I first began my career. I knew that I was into parties and events because I would always sign myself up for it whether it was a paid gig or not. As my experience developed, I started slowly getting paid.
As a college student, I almost feel that I was chasing the money majority of the time which was very frustrating because it was never enough. At some point, I was working a 9-5 full time, going to school full time 6-10 PM night classes, and working side gigs as a brand ambassador or promo model just to get the experience and meet ends with bills. As I look back, it’s definitely clear to me that events are my passion but at the time I really had no idea as I was just trying to survive and get the experience to be compensated.
Please tell us more about Events by TF. What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
Events by TF is an event planning company that specializes in intimate and thematic events such as weddings, concerts, festivals, birthday parties, corporate and nonprofit events.
We are most known for our outstanding business networks and our excellent management skills. We take pride in finding solutions and making things happen to create unforgettable moments through events. What sets us apart is our passion and our willingness to do whatever it takes.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The events industry and this generation is evolving in light of teamwork and collaborations. Back then, it was very common for one name to be a big name and it was one person behind it all. In today’s generation with social media being a major tool, it is important that we shed light on teams and partnerships that go hand in hand and elevate one another. At Events by TF we treat all of our team whether it’s the venue, the cook, the catering captain, the janitor, the photographer, the cake vendor, etc. all as ONE team as we believe that we are the chosen team to execute the event for the day. We are inspired, to building dream teams filled with talented individuals to execute events. As we always say, teamwork makes the dream work!
