Meet Victor Solomon of Literally Balling in East Side!

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Solomon.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Victor. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in Boston and treked across to SF when I was 18. Worked directing films while I was there and played around with a fine art practice on the side.

Got curious about stained glass as a medium and found a studio to apprentice at to learn the craft – eventually making a basketball backboard as allegory for the opportunity to use a no-barrier-to-entry sport as platform for class ascension; embellishing its icon with this material that had historically been reserved for the elite.

Didn’t intend for it to be anything more than learning a new craft, but things got a little crazy and have been riding it out ever since

Has it been a smooth road?
Stumbling into this project that’s evolved into a bit of a career was an accident so it’s hard to take any of it seriously or think of any of the struggles as a bother.

That I get to make things with my bare hands and have nice things because of it is ridiculous, how could I be mad!

Please tell us about Literally Balling.
The project, called Literally Balling has evolved into a fine art practice, interpreting icons of sport with techniques historically reserved for the elite – a bit of brand consulting, we release limited edition pieces, design and fabricate activation installations and are getting a bit into the technology space…

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I’ve been in Los Angeles for almost three years now – and while I have reservations about it’s aesthetic/layout/weather, I think it’s an incredible platform for business.

For the newcomers, understand that it’ll take two years to figure out how to navigate, but anything you can think of needing it inside of 10miles.
