Meet Teresa Martinez of Innate Awakening in Colton

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been self-employed as a Cranial Sacral Therapist, Massage Therapist, Esthetician, Rebirther, Health/Wellness Coach and handcrafter of my own organic/natural skin care products for 22 years! Previously I worked for the State of California for 23 years.

My experience of being self-employed began 30 years ago. I had many different types of ailments/symptoms of which western traditional medicine had no answers for. All test results were always negative! I recalled one morning that my maternal and paternal grandmothers always believed and talked about natural being the most healthy. I decided to venture out into the herbal ways and started meeting all types of health care practitioners and therapists. I attended all different types of conferences/seminars with topics associated to health. I then started searching the world of herbs and consuming supplements associated to my symptoms and began to see, as well as feel a difference within six months. There was a lot of discussion in seminars that I attended regarding symptoms and causes which also helped tremendously. After three years, I began feeling much better with the use of different supplements and alternative body therapies.

The thought/idea of me, myself, becoming some type of a holistic therapist never crossed my mind until the mid-90s. I started out as a Reiki Master for the first two years because a few of the many therapists I came to know suggested it. During those two years, I enrolled in a Holistic School, obtained a Massage Therapist State License, after which I enrolled in the Upledger Institute to become certified in Cranial Sacral Therapy. After a period of seven years, I also earned my certification as an Esthetician and handcraft my own skincare product line, InnateAwaken. I have also become a certified Health and Wellness Coach. I have throughout the years also learned many other holistic therapies. I became 100% self-employed in 2001 and have provided/assisted others with therapies that have been for their higher good to assist them in their own healing journey.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road of being self-employed was not as difficult as I thought it would be. While I was employed with the State, my position allowed me to communicate with employees within (400 to be exact)! All the doors opened up for me as a began my journey of helping others. It is in the area of skin care products/marketing that has been the challenge! The word of mouth really assisted me regarding therapy as well as the skin care line! However, at this time, I need more assistance with the skin care!  It was clear for me that this new journey was meant to be!!! Truly has been a blessing!
