Meet Jacob Suh of Studio Charis in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Suh.

Founded by Phillip Charis in 1954, Studio Charis represents the ultimate in formal photographic portraiture. The Studio is now privileged to work with internationally acclaimed Master Photographer Jacob Suh, who brings his own distinctive style to the Studio. Known for his work with politicians, celebrities, families, and many accomplished people, the impact and emotion of a portrait by Jacob is unmistakable.

Jacob Suh began his career in California, where his passion for photography led him to the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography to complete his studies. He has participated in international exhibitions and seminars and is the recipient of the 1995 Professional Photographers International Portrait Award. His work appears in multiple books and he is a contributing World Vision Photographer.

Jacob’s portraits are designed and lit to enhance and capture the essence of each individual. From large format family portraits to stunning black and white images, a portrait by Jacob continues the tradition of elegance and style that characterizes Studio Charis.

Has it been a smooth road?
The Studio has been in Pasadena since 1954 so the Studio is well known in the neighborhood. But since technology has advanced so much, especially with digital cameras on phones, business took a dive. But the three owners persevered with their art of portraiture. This type of portraiture takes a lot of detailed work and it comes with a price. People who appreciate the work are willing to purchase.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Not many portrait studios like Studio Charis exist anymore. People admire the works very much, as the portraits look like a work of art. Jacob is proud to continue this type of work for the next generation. Fewer photographers work with Negatives. Almost all of our client see our work as a museum piece and they are very happy with the finished product. We think people are starting to appreciate the old-fashioned work of the portraits. It is truly timeless, which gets passed from generations to generations.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The studio was founded in Pasadena and it grew with the city over the years. Los Angeles has so much to offer but with a lot of competition. But like we mentioned earlier, this type of work should be based on passion for art. We are always hoping for the arts to increase in schools and community.

Pricing:

  • Our sitting fee is $195 for up to a group of 4 people
  • Our price differs from the size of the portrait, 11×14 to 40×50
