Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole de la Cruz.
Nicole, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been surrounded by music for as long as I can remember. My mother, being the professional violinist that she is, helped me cultivate my passion for music. I started studying voice at the age of 10. I have been performing since the age of 8 and have performed at various venues as well as festivals and events over the past ten years including Wellington Idol, the South Florida Fair, the LA County Fair, and the Long Beach Music and Indie Film Festival.
My mother saw the drive and love I had for singing as well as acting, so together, along with my brother, we moved to LA from South Florida, now almost four years ago. Since being in LA, I have studied under various vocal coaches and acting coaches and attended a performing arts school in Downtown LA. I am currently studying voice and artist development with my vocal coach and producer Valerie Fahren.
The genre of music that I write is pop mixed with a little rock and some RnB. Earlier this year, I released two of my original singles called “Until I Met You” and “I Wear the Crown.” These singles are now available on all digital music platforms including iTunes, Google Play, and Spotify. The music video to my single “Until I Met You” was released June 1st on my youtube channel.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road, but nothing great is ever achieved without taking risks and persevering through despite the obstacles thrown your way. Making the big cross country move from Florida to California and adapting to LA’s environment as well as the cost of living was definitely a struggle along the way.
Then there are the “no’s” that come with auditioning in LA. Sometimes it can be a struggle when things aren’t going how you planned, or an audition didn’t come to fruition, however, in the end, the “no’s” help you to work harder and get better. The day “yes” finally comes, it will be worth the wait.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m a singer-songwriter, actress, and award-winning writer.
I sing, I act, and I write songs and currently working on TV auditions, a tour, and getting a major label record deal. This is a full-time job rehearsing, rehearsing, and more rehearsing. It’s waking up in the middle of the night with a new song idea; it’s going and meeting lots of producers and doing showcases in Hollywood. I love my business, I wouldn’t be doing anything else, but it’s long hours and lots of persistence. Right now I have a few of my songs at two different labels being considered for TV and a major label signing. This journey I’m on is always exciting, and it inspires me to continue. What sets me apart from the others is that I have a five-octave range, and at the age of 18, I am already an award-winning writer.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think LA is a great place for people to explore any creative interests they have and be able to flourish and express their personality through their art. I would recommend starting out in this city because this is the heart of the entertainment and music industry. Even if you’re only at the beginning of your artistic journey, just being in this city and the environment of the industry will help inspire you to continue on with your dream. I recommend that they start working with Valerie Fahren or someone like her that you trust to get you on the right track to success.
