Today we’d like to introduce you to Teri Bocko.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Teri. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I came to Los Angeles seven years ago with twinkly stars in my eyes and a dream to be on the silver screen. My wish was to bring characters, ideas + stories to life.
My mom valued the arts + travel in our upbringing. My childhood was spent living between West Texas + the Twin Cities with little pockets of travel all around the States + Europe. For me, there was always magic in visiting a new place; a magic that remains. Even at a young age, I would take note of the environment around me, observe the stories the scenery would paint + daydream my own stories in these enchanting places. I can be quite the dreamer.
Whether I realized it or not, photography has always been a trusty companion. In snapping little shots of these places, people or pets with my camera, I would find myself capturing more than objects + color.
My photographs captured time.
As my acting career advanced, I quickly realized the importance [+ expense] of headshots. I invested in better gear and began shooting my friends. I learned about lighting, framing + composition through practice. Lots of it. As fate would have it, a friend of mine offered me a job helping him shoot a wedding out in Bakersfield. At the time, I couldn’t imagine myself in the Wedding world but, I needed some extra cash! We worked the job and just like a California quake, my path shifted. Never had I felt such fulfillment in a job. That feeling has blossomed.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Timeless photos are my priority but I always like to expand, putting my own spin on things. This can be challenging in a place like the Eiffel Tower that’s already well known + well shot. My approach is to dive right in, even if that means jumping into a bush, rolling on the ground or running into flocks of birds- all of which I have done to get the shot.
Please tell us about Teri B Photography.
I shoot weddings, elopements, engagements + family portraits in Southern California + European Destinations. My style can be described as a photojournalistic approach with a dash of artistic flare.
Above all, I am always looking for the story. I aim to tell it + create a little bit of magic in doing so.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One Halloween I sat my little sister on our washing machine + gave her a haircut. I gave her fancy zig-zag bangs just in time for her school photos. My mom grounded me from Trick-or-Treating but my sweet grandfather took me out and around the block anyway. We brought home the sugar motherland, more than I got any other year.
