Meet Dante Marshall of The Art Direction in Downtown Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dante Marshall.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got started almost 10 years ago now. I am originally from Detroit and I was taking photos of friends and family. Honestly not sure how it became my full-time profession. I didn’t really know that money could be made off photography. I figured it was just a cool thing to do.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been a pretty smooth road. Anytime you are a freelance artist I think you worry about stability. I’d say that’s been one of the toughest obstacles. some months are really good and others are not. I had to learn how to save money and budget so that those slow months didn’t have an impact on how I move.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Art Direction – what should we know?
I am a professional photographer/creative director. I work with lifestyle brands and music artists. The fact that I am able to support myself doing what I love doing every day is something that I am proud of. Personally, I think the biggest mistake people make in life is not trying to make a living at doing what they most enjoy.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My dad is the one that put a camera and my hand and my mom is my number one fan. My sister is my accountability partner and makes suer that I stay on top of things each day. Outside of my drive and passion for being a better me, they are the reason I am always fine tuning my craft.
