Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Yniguez.
Barbara, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I started my beauty career while still in high school. I was drawn to beauty school through a career event. I completed the course and attained a cosmetology license. I initially assisted hairstylists but after a few years doing hair I was pulled into makeup.
This ignited a true passion that took me to Beverly Hills to assist under Eugenia Weston at her makeup studio Senna. Within a couple of years, I ventured on to open my own private makeup studio in Sherman Oaks. At that time, I was on the Sebastian International Artistic team for Trucco traveling as both a platform and backstage artist. After a short stint in London as a freelance session artist, I came back home to LA to continue doing media freelance work. Its been almost ten years and I have been so fortunate to work on many cool and fun projects.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
As a makeup artist, my first objective is to find beauty, the second is to make it bigger, more striking, enhanced or any number of things the creative direction requests. I have to hope when someone sees my work it inspires within them their own beauty and the appreciation for individuality. Every woman, man and child who sits in my makeup chair is a unique canvas whose inner and outer beauty are my inspiration. I do not tend to be drawn to a typical set of ideals that leads to a lot of people looking like the same person so that is not represented. That being said, I love so many different aesthetics in fashion and beauty that I am able to pull inspiration from so many other art mediums, nature (especially for color combining) music, history, space, cultures, etc.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
