Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanisha D. Davis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Tanisha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m from Los Angeles, CA and was raised in Mobile, Alabama. Life for me started out rough, I grew up in a single parent home and spent a lot of my childhood up until my teenage years in and out of Foster Care. I went through physical, sexual and verbal abuse, and by the age of 13 I was nearly suicidal and suffering from depression.
After dealing with the struggles of the governmental system, I made a decision at the age of 14 that I was going to do everything in my will to not let my experiences stop me or slow me down. So while in Foster Care at the age of 17 I became the President of a Foster Care program for teenagers called, The Independent Living Program where I became a positive role model for teens in Foster Care. I then got involved in local churches and started teaching and motivating women to be better than their struggles at Women’s Conferences at only the age of 19.
I finished high school and later graduated college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Not fully happy with my career, I stepped away from the justice system to pursue my passion as a writer full time. I always loved to write and it was something I had done since I was 13 years old. I took a leap of faith and took a drive to Atlanta, Georgia to connect with the owner of Kontrol Magazine, where I was interviewed on the spot and hired to contribute as a writer. This opportunity opened doors for me and in the midst of my work with them, I founded Starrdom100 Radio Show. I started Starrdom100 Radio to give a voice to those who were not Celebrities with large followings, yet were making a major impact in their careers and communities. This movement brought along a positive connection with Actor Brandon T. Jackson and allowed me to work as an Assistant for him for about two years. Later word spread to New York about the amazing work I was doing and I was contacted by a publishing company and asked to come out to Hollywood and was placed in charge of producing and helping to film footage to promote the books for Lil Fizz of B2K, Nikko London of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, and Hazel-E of Love & Hip Hop Hollywood!
My work has gained me opportunities to write with now, Sheen Magazine, TheJasmineBrand and a following from TheShadeRoom, and Bossip. My articles have sparked likes on Social Media from Tiffany Haddish, Lance Gross, Lil Mama, Sanaa Lathan, Cardi B, Meagan Good, and others. My fun personality and passion for my writing has opened the door to guest on my radio show and interviews with Woody McClain, Sammie, Kountry Wayne, Jason Weaver, Christopher “Play” Martin, Chingy, Darrin Henson, Robert Ri’Chard, Omar Tyree & many more! In 2017 JP Agency awarded me with a 2017 Women’s Empowerment Award in Atlanta, Georgia.
Since the spark of my career in Journalism I have published two books which are featured on Amazon, “You Are Worth The Wait” which inspires women and men to know their worth and not settle for less, and “Fool’s Paradise” a fictional eBook, the first in its series. I have had the pleasure to also teach young entrepreneurs during Black Writers Weekend in Atlanta, Georgia ways to be successful in media. I work very hard daily by encouraging people from every walk of life to keep pushing towards their dreams. I want my life and the things I have overcome to show the world that if you keep pushing through everything you have gone through, you can win!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This journey for me has not been smooth at all. I grew up in and out of Foster Care from the age of three years old up until I was 19 years old. My mother struggled with a drug addiction, which since then she has overcome. I didn’t find my biological father until I was 28 years old. I had to grow up dealing with sexual abuse, physical abuse and verbal abuse from those who were considered to be family to me. If it wasn’t for being blessed to live with a Christian family during my late teen years and learning how to pray and trust God, then I wouldn’t be the strong powerful woman that you see today.
Starrdom100 Radio – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The name Starrdom100 sparked from a relationship blog that I started in 2011. I used the platform to encourage people how to handle their experiences in relationships after suffering from a Domestic Violence relationship. The platform grew to 100K readers. From there I paused on the platform and then later in 2015 I was while working for a magazine to launch Starrdom100 Radio Show which was going to allow readers to now hear from me and interact with me. The show created so much buzz due to me being a Journalist and soon became the voice to those who were not Celebrities but had a story to tell. The amazing thing about that is that it opened the door to Celebrities wanting to be on the show and from there the show now is featured on iHeart Radio, Spotify, & iTunes.
It continues to encourage and motivate individuals from every background that you can come on the show and be a star in your own community without the approval of major media outlets! What makes me proud about this show is that I have featured not only Celebrities but your everyday people who are doing amazing things in the community but no one has given them the chance to tell the world that. What sets me apart from others is that I’m extremely passionate about what I do. I don’t care about the fame, I’m humble and I love helping people…it’s how my heart is set up…I want to see people win and if I can help then I’m there!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is a mindset. If you want to be successful in business or in any other area of life, you have to embrace the idea mentally and if you don’t see it from within then you nor your business will go very far. What I look for in a person who is successful is someone that pursues something far greater than themselves often and they achieve those goals every time.
