The Story of Pilates Sports Center in Encino

Pilates Sports Center was founded by Kelli Altounian and Dr. Andromeda Stevens in 2004. Their professional relationship began in 2000 when Kelli worked as a Pilates Instructor with Dr. Stevens at Pilates Studio City. In early 2004, due to a lack of quality instructors, they created the Pilates Sports Center Comprehensive teacher training program to educate and create fantastic new Pilates Instructors. Twelve years later that program is one of the elite Pilates educational programs in the world and is held in high regard by the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) or, one of the only real recognized governing bodies of Pilates Industry. Pilates Sports Center is an upscale 4200 square foot training facility in beautiful Encino, right next door to Gelsons Supermarket. It’s been in the same building for 8 years and offers Pilates privates, semi-privates, classes, Burn at the Barre classes, TRX and more. Kelli and Andromeda are still full time and are here teaching either classes, private clients or the teacher training program.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are always challenges associated with owning your own business, and the health and fitness industry is incredibly competitive. Kelli and Andromeda created workshops called, “Intro to the Pilates Business” or Biz 1 and “Advanced Business Workshop for Pilates” which gives new aspiring studio owners an A – Z gathering of imperative information needed to running a successful studio. Some might think that it’s giving away the trade secrets, but Pilates is a small community, and we believe that successful studios and teachers with a comprehensively educated teachers will keep the Pilates name and work held in high regard. Pilates helps millions of people around the globe, and our graduates are held in the highest esteem by their clients. Because of that our retention has been excellent and we literally have clients of all ages come through our doors and work with us. That really keeps the struggle at bay and makes this studio an awesome place to be every day.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Pilates Sports Center – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I think I probably answered that in the previous two questions. But we are most proud of our instructors. We have 12 instructors that keep PSC thriving and help the local community with their health and wellness goals each and every day.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our big plan for 2017 is that we’ve just added TRX to our studio in our Barre and Mat room. 10 of our instructors just completed their TRX certifications and we are excited to unveil a brand new schedule with TRX classes added in the mornings and the evenings. We also usually have insane deals at the end of the year to help people get ready for their January 1st fitness goals.
