Today we’d like to introduce you to TK Trinidad.
TK, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Toronto, Canada and raised by West Indian parents who instilled in me, a crazy work ethic. That work ethic and determination led me to run away from home at 17 years old to pursue a track and field scholarship. My high school at the time had 1000 girls and no track. I eventually earned a full-ride track scholarship from the University of Oregon.
After I graduated, I travelled the world, excelled in fitness and broadcast journalism. Eventually, I ended up in California where I played for the Legends Football League and also started competing in Crossfit competitions. During that time, I was in an unhealthy relationship, which resulted in me losing faith in myself. The end of that relationship allowed for doors to open, beyond my wildest dreams. I’ve worked for iHeart Radio on ATL 98.7, Real 92.3 and seen on the premier force in celebrity breaking news, TMZ. I get to talk, report and write about pop culture, sports and current events for Hip Hop DX, F N A Podcast, TeamSoca.com, Rap TV, Baller Alert, Afterbuzz TV, Black Hollywood Live and Vh1. On the side, I MC at Crossfit and track and field competitions. I also started a skin care company with my business partner Nesha Blair; called Center In (we sell candles, body scrubs, and body butters).
My passion is to educate, enlighten and entertain.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, the road has been quite bumpy, as with life in general. I’ve heard a lot of no’s, a lot of “we only need one black girl in the room”, “this market is not set up for black women” and so many other hurtful things. I was in a near-death car accident, where I almost lost it all. My car hit a wall, flipped over three times and landed on the roof. I walked away with only one scratch on my right ring finger. I choose to remain consistent, focus and positive in who I am, my faith and continue to work on my craft.
VH1 – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I currently on a show called “Love and Hip Hop: The Tea: for VH1. I also write for Rap TV and I’m a co-host on Women’s Wrestling Weekly, WWE Raw After Show, WWE NXT After Show on Afterbuzz TV and Fit Club on Black Hollywood Live. I also make appearances on networks and shows such as FNA podcast, Hip Hop DX, EUR Web and CP 24 (in Canada) as an entertainment expert.
I believe what sets me apart from the competition is taking myself out of the equation and focusing on the facts and the art of storytelling. Being self-aware, constantly working on my craft and not taking no for an answer also sets me apart as well.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My definition of success is being able to wake up every morning to do what I love and pay my bills. My goal is to continue growing personally, spiritually, professionally (hosting and with my business ventures) and to continue to take care of my family and the ones who love me.
