Meet Anthony Oyatayo of Catch Our Fade Barber Shop in Chatsworth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Oyatayo.

Anthony, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always wanted to start my own business, especially after I completed my MBA. As an engineer, I felt that I wanted to do something out of my norm. One day I was sitting at a barber shop and conversing with my barber about how barber shops are operated. At that moment I decided that I’d eventually want to start my own barber shop business. Months later I was sitting on the couch and saw an ad from LegalZoom saying it was National Start Your Business month. I got up, went to my computer, logged on their site, and the rest was history.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Oh, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road whatsoever. There have been plenty of ups and downs, especially when it comes to securing consistent, mature, and talented barbers. But the key is staying positive and knowing that eventually, everything will work out. And if for whatever reason it doesn’t, at least I know I tried something new and learned from it.

Please tell us about Catch Our Fade Barber Shop.
We specialize in haircuts; making people feel like a million bucks once they leave the chair. Although we are a small team, we definitely plan on making a big impact in the San Fernando Valley. The name of the shop is catchy and the place is decorated well. Most mom and pop shops don’t look like ours. In addition, we have partnered with the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission where we had a program giving free haircuts to those in need. We also plan on doing a program with A Place
Called Home in the future.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Honestly, we all know hindsight is 20/20, but the only thing I would’ve done differently is not put so much faith in other people. I’ve dealt with barbers who have made a bunch of broken promises. I understand how certain people have an “every man for himself” attitude, but in my shop, we are a team and I only want team players.
