Meet Dalina Rebollo of The Dalina Way in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dalina Rebollo.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a celebrity Hairstylist based out of Hollywood. I am from a Mexican family but born in Los Angeles. My career in the hair industry began when I started as an assistant to the owner of a very popular salon in Hollywood. That job immediately threw me into working with celebrities like The Pussycat Dolls, Lil’ Kim and Danica Patrick. Once I was up and running, I found my niche in helping artists define their look. I was working with many signed label artists like ZZ Ward, Grace Potter, and many others. Aside from specializing in salon services, I also traveled with various celebrities on tour, the most famous being Ariana Grande. I spent four years on the road tending to her hair daily. After all, that time spent on the road, I realized that I wanted to come home and help everyday people achieve the look of their dreams.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Looking back at my career, I reached the peak of a hair stylist’s dream. I was touring with the biggest artist in the world, seeing a new city every night. The truth of the matter was that it came with a lot of personal obstacles. One of them was being overweight. I found myself being physically uncomfortable very often. I knew that, in order to progress, I needed to tackle this lifelong struggle. I decided to get bariatric surgery. Post-surgery, I was very happy to be healthy and able to handle the challenges of life better.

Another struggle was missing out on a lot of significant family moments. I missed a lot of holidays including the death of one of my closest friends, and my dad’s battle with kidney failure (he recovered and is doing much better). Family is everything to me, so missing out bothered me emotionally. I still wouldn’t take back my time on the road. It molded me into a much better person and brought me out of my shell.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am proud to announce that I opened my own salon suite. It is my little happy place where I can accommodate all my clients, I’m located in the heart of Hollywood, I pride myself on my ability to take care of all hair types and textures, but I’m very well known for my work with extensions and blondes. My favorite thing about what I do is my ability to help clients achieve the look of their dreams. Everyone has a vision for how they see themselves, and I love that I can bring those dreams to life.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was an introvert. The chubby, shy girl that’s been parodied and mocked in popular culture forever. The thing I loved the most was making the people around me happy. I’ve always wanted to belong. Doing hair brought me that sense of belonging that I craved. I loved to do my friend’s hair from very young. Hair has always been a conduit to feeling a sense of closeness to people. I had other interests from a young age, but hair was always the dominant thing in my life.
