Meet Trailblazer Brooke Rewa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Rewa.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brooke. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Goodmylk was inspired by my own health journey, a battle with digestive issues that really came down to over-consumption of processed foods.

I was vegan and assumed that all vegan foods were automatically healthy. Not the case. Especially plant-based milks (almond was my milk of choice at the time). I remember turning over the box and looking at the ingredients for the first time, after years of consuming boxed plant milks, and realizing I had let marketing, buzz words and cute packaging fool me into believing these items were good for me.

This leads to me making almond milk for myself in my home kitchen. And once you go homemade, you’re never going back to the boxed stuff. It’s super rich and delicious, and most importantly healthy and REAL!

I started selling my homemade mylks at the local farmer’s markets and it took off from there! We have now found a great community in the 3rd wave coffee scene where so many cool shops like Blue Bottle, Verve, and La Colombe use Goodmylk in their drinks.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Once you start a business, you’re literally hopping onto a rollercoaster and you have no idea how many bumps loops, hills you’re going to hit in a day. It is insane and no one can prepare you for it. But of course, also so rewarding.

I think it’s incredibly important to find support from other business owners and creators. Entrepreneurship can be very lonely no matter how many employees you have. Having a support system that understands your perspective and is going through similar struggles is key.

If you’re just starting your business, reach out to businesses you admire for advice and Intel. And make sure you understand that you’re not going to have all the answers on day 1 or even day 10000. Be open-minded, say yes to things and be ready to pivot as needed.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Goodmylk Co – what should we know?
At Goodmylk Co., we’re really proud of our products. We don’t compromise on quality, materials, taste or integrity. Ever.

We’ve figured out how to scale a homemade recipe without the binders, fillers, and additives other companies use. Even when so many in the food industry told me it couldn’t be done.

We are driven by our mission to make the best plant mylks on the planet and are here to prove you don’t have to compromise in order to scale a business.

We think outside the box and challenge our customers and other businesses to do the same.

My secret tools are:
Breathing. I know this sounds silly but intentional breathing can be a life changer during a hectic day.
And daydreaming. Some of my best ideas come when I’m not trying to think of them!
