Today we’d like to introduce you to Janette Tomlinson.
Janette, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always been a sun worshiper- Until I was diagnosed with pre-skin cancer on my face. That is when I discovered spray tans and I instantly fell in love. As a mother of four, I needed a flexible schedule and decided that owning my own business was the way to go. I have been able to create my own work environment that brings me joy. I love helping people to feel their best. I am in the business of helping women and men feel more beautiful and confident- and it is such happy, positive energy.
Has it been a smooth road?
I started small and did mobile tans. There was not much sunless education at that time. I was blessed that my family wanted to help me. My equipment arrived right before Mother’s Day, and for my gift my kids and fiancé let me practice spraying them all day!
My family has been so supportive from helping me hand out business cards to letting me experiment with new products on them. It took a few years of mobile tanning for me to get the confidence and courage to open up a spot in a salon.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Island Girl Spray Tans story. Tell us more about the business.
Island Girl Spray Tans offers spray tanning, body contour, and teeth whitening services. I am a master certified artist. I have a reputation for giving a flawless, natural-looking tan as well as making people feel comfortable. What sets me apart from others is my commitment to education.
I’m always taking classes and learning to be able to provide my clients with the best products and service. I am a bridal specialist- I am proud every time I receive a thank you or receive a photo from one of the brides who trusted me for her special day.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
There has been tremendous growth in the spray tan industry. We will continue to see more growth as we start to get away from the negative connotation of the orange looking tans of years ago.
As people are trending towards a healthier lifestyle, a safe spray tan is the best choice for healthy,anti-aging, cancer-free skin care.
