Meet Lauren Irwin of Elsie Rose Photography in Woodland Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Irwin.

Lauren, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a child photographer and have always loved working with children. I love the joy, light, and honesty they bring to every day. I am originally from the UK and taught dance to children before moving to LA. I love to tell stories and found that through my photography I could do this.

I’ve always loved photography and started shooting portraits for fun. I quickly realized that my passion lay in photographing children and teens more than adults. I photographed a friends two children when they were getting started in the modeling industry. They got an agent with my images, and the agent asked who had taken the photographs.

I started to get referrals, and a lot of interest and so decided to form my company. I photograph newborns, children’s fine art portraits, teen portraits, headshots and modeling portfolios up to age 21 years and families. I photograph for families homes, magazines and children in the entertainment industry. I have my own studio and also shoot outdoors in many LA locations.

Has it been a smooth road?
Working as an artist can be difficult at times with marketing, just getting your name out there and for people to know you and your work. I’ve worked really hard over the past few years, and I put so much time and love into everything I do, that I think that eventually pays off. A lot of my business has been through word of mouth and referrals. I have clients that return year after year, some multiple times per year. I love watching my young clients grow.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Elsie Rose Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a portrait photographer. I specialize in children and teens. I am known for my children’s fine art portraits and creating a little bit of magic in every photoshoot. I love working with children, I let their personalities shine through, and I aim to capture those real, beautiful moments.

I see beyond the image, and my imagination allows me to edit each image into something special and unique for each client. I am proud of my work and my growth. I feel incredibly lucky to get to do something I love every day and call it my job.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think in all industries things are always changing so fast. When I was a child, photography was very different from today. I remember waiting a week to get my images developed. Now there are so many affordable digital cameras and even very good cameras on cell phones.

Everything is a lot more instant than it used to be, but I also love that! I love to take my images, I love to open Photoshop and bring to life the images I see in my head. I think with technology, and social media things will keep changing and moving pretty fast.
