Meet Sokha Ny of Long Beach Environmental Alliance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sokha Ny.

Sokha Ny and John Kindred are both citizens who live in Long Beach, California who are dedicated to addressing issues of litter pollution, climate change, and coastal climate change. We are a grassroots organization that hopes to bring environmental, schools, and health groups together to help protect the future of our planet. Together we can make a difference!

It is urgent that we act now; we will push the climate beyond its tipping points. We all have the ability to make a change, and we need your help. We are asking you to join our alliance because the health of our community and future depends on the decisions we make now. Our alliance can bring inspirations to other communities across California and hopefully the world.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. The struggles we face are like any other group. Finding individuals who understand our mission and vision and putting in the time to make things work. The main struggle for myself is finding the time. I have a full-time job, and after my 9-5 job, I manage Long Beach Environmental Alliance. It’s tough to pass down the knowledge that we have or how or how our organization works when there is no one who is willing to put in that time.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Long Beach Environmental Alliance (LBEA) is different from other environmental groups because we are an alliance. We are basically the liaison between community groups/environmental groups, and we connect them to each other — everything related back to the environment. We keep the groups within the alliance updated with environmental news/issues, and we come together when it is needed most like at city council hearings, rallies, marches, or tabling events together.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think so, Long Beach is an upcoming sustainable city. We are always looking for new ways and outlets to help reach our sustainability goals. All in all, we all need to work together to improve the quality of life for all. We are all interconnected and what we do impacts each other. The best solution is to work together.
